Burg Hardegg is on a hill high above the community Liebenfels in Carinthia , Austria.

The first documented mention was in 1134 (Mengotus filius eius et de Hardeche Gotpoldus), the decline probably began in the 18th Century, when the so-called roof tax was introduced.




Burg Hardegg is also the name of a castle in the village of Hardegg in lower Austria.

1145 the first mention was made in a document HARDEGG of Elizabeth of Schleunz, as witness the donation is Otto de Hardeck, but the fotress was there long before.

Arnside Tower is a late-medieval tower house in Cumbria, England.

Arnside Tower was built in the second half of the 15th century; also referred to as Pele towers, these were then often built in the insecure areas of northern England and southern Scotland.

Slutsk Old Castle is located in the town of Slutsk (Sluck), Belarus.

Slutsk was first mentioned in chronicles in 1116 as one of the towns of the Principality of Turov. In 1320-30s the Principality of Turov became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. After World War II, the old castle was rebuilt into a recreation center so that it is hard to see the castle underneath.

Kasteel Pulhof also called Verbrandhof is located near Wijnegem, Belgium.

There was a castle already there in the 14th century that had been built by the noble family of Pulle. In 1470 the estate was bought by the family vander Noot. The modifications to the castle over the centuries maintained most of the original structure and foundations, as well as the moat.

Kasteel Doggenhout is located in Ranst, Belgium.

The castle is first mention in 1186 in the archives of the Antwerp St. Michael's Abbey.

Bornem Castle, also known as the De Marnix de Sainte-Aldegonde Castle located in Bornem, Belgium.

The building and its moat stands on the Oude Schelde, a tributary of the Scheldt. The earliest fortification on the site was of the 10th or 11th centuries and was intended to defend against the incursions of the Normans.

Gradacac Castle is a castle located in Gradacac in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

There has been a fortification on this site since the Romans first built a castrum. Most of the inner parts of the castle there now were built between 1725 and 1824 on top of medieval and Roman walls.

Hisarya (Hissar) is castle ruin inside a small resort town in Bulgaria.

Located in the outskirts of the Sredna Gora mountain range, it boasts of a very mild climate and over two dozen different mineral springs, which make it a favorite spa for many Bulgarian and foreign tourists. The town itself is still surrounded by the ancient fortress walls and towers. Most of the fortification still there are of Roman origin, with some medieval repairs and expansions.

Cacvina is a castle above the resort town Trilj in Split-Dalmatia County, Coatia.

The Romans built on top of an earlier strong point. Fragments of pottery are scattered across a number of sunny slopes at the foot of the slope works Cacvina, which testifies to the occasional pre-Roman inhabitants.  Later in the middle ages, the turks built a tower here since the site is a natural passage through the mountains. The village church was built of material scavenged from the castle.

Karlstejn Castle is a large Gothic castle in the Czech Republic.

Founded in 1348 by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor-elect and King of Bohemia, the construction works were directed by the later Karlštejn burgrave Vitus of Bítov, but there are no records of the builder himself.

Jaegerspris Castle is in Jaegerspris on the Hornsherred peninsula west of Copenhagen, Denmark.

A source from 1318 refers to the estate as land belonging to the Crown. Until 1677 the estate was known as Abrahamstrup. It is not clear who Abraham was but the name is believed to be a reference to King Valdemar II's son Abel since most of Hornsherred in the 12th century was owned by the king. The moat has been filled in and built over.

Hachigata Castle is a mountain castle located in Yorii, Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Hachigata Castle was built in approximately 1476 by Nagao Kageharu of the Late H?j? clan. At present, a good bit of the extensive castle is in ruins.

Qalaat Al-Gindi is located about 50 km East of Ras Sudr, Egypt.
