This comes from my days of collecting vinyl and thinking about Beatles vs Stones made me think it would be a good topic.  I've had ups and downs financially all of my life, but no matter how poor I got I never sold (or would):

1.  Pearls Before Swine and Tom Rapp collections.
2.  Strawbs collections, especially "Two Weeks Last Summer" by David Cousins.
3.  Alan Stivell collections.
4.  Loreena McKennitt collection.
5.  "In My Lady's Chamber," by Joseph Pusey.
6.  "The Great Lost Kinks Album," by The Kinks (of course).
7.  "S.F. Sorrow," original tombstone gatefold cover by The Pretty Things
8.  Pentangle/Bert Jansch/Jacqui MacShee/John Renbourn collections.
9.  "Annie in Wonderland," by Annie Haslam.
10. Owain Phyfe/New World Renaissance Band/Cantiga collections.
11. "Pan Pipes of Jujuka" compiled by Brian Jones.
12.  "Astral Weeks," by Van Morrison.

I'm sure there's more, but for tonight, I'll go to 11.

Music was so much a part of my life growing up and relationships that I found it really tough to pick 10 plus the bonus soundtrack.

6. Gimme Shelter--Merry Clayton doing the 'unearthly wail through a cemetery' whistle  
    register is a thing of beauty.
5.  Anything Motown--falling in love at seventeen to the sounds of Smokey Robinson
4 . Rebel Yell--any song that yells MORE MORE MORE! *sigh*
3. Urgent by Foreigner--the sax in this is wonderful
2. Steely Dan collection
1. LAYLA--because I just wanna be her!

These have been my favorite songs since I was a teenager.  I've had others that I've enjoyed and loved but these will always be in my playlists.

7.  Anything faire, no matter what the CD, I love all the music we collect from faire.

Great contributions, ladies!

Love all the Motown stuff and Otis Redding especially!  And also any combinations that Eric Clapton was involved with, or Neil Young for that matter and The Beatles pretty much throughout their combined careers, although I think I liked John Lennon solo the best as a solo artist.  Again, even though I voted for Beatles in the other thread, the only Stones thing in my "never let it go" pile has a Rolling Stone in it, but it's an oddity of a recording, as are many of the ones I listed...My list is partially based on could I ever find it again??  And is nowise to be considered a complete anything of what I necessarily like or listen to.  That would take at least a Top 100 list!

Ferret:  Love Steve Winwood and Spencer Davis!  Got to see Winwood with Traffic many times back in the day!

Noble Dreg:  80's for me was so much about the Eurythmics and The Waterboys, REM and the Psychedelic Furs...and loved Culture Club (guilty pleasure, but what a lovely soulful voice Boy George had).  Bow Wow Wow and Wall of Voodoo, great bands!  Do you remember Romeo Void?  Sold many a picture disc back in the day when I worked in the record store...At my house, I have a great Beatles one!

Prof. John Bull:  Fairport Convention...Sigh.  Both Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny have my undying affection!  Have you ever heard Dave Cousin's song for Sandy?  So beautiful.

I practically lived at a club called First Avenue (side door 7th street entry).  Saw Culture Club there, great live band!  Loved Romeo Void!

On a rare day this guy in purple would do a few sets, he went on to bigger things as I recall.

Dreg:  I got to see that Purple Guy.  He showed up at a show with The Bangles that I went to in LA....

Morgan:  Great stuff in your list, too!  My favorite Lightfoot tune is "Affair On 8th Avenue."  And obviously, I'm unapologetically a Jethro Tull fan, and love the Airplane!  Favorites from them include "Lather," "Wooden Ships," (which I still greatly prefer their version as opposed to the CSN one, even though I also love that conglomerate), "Come Up The Years" and "Comin' Back To Me."  "White Rabbit" is a given.

I'll never give up any of my music. Everything I have touches me in a certain way, and here's my tops, plus the memories that go with it.

1. Tupac and Bone Thugs N Harmony- My "sister" in high school was a fan, we listened to it every morning on the way to school
2. Marilyn Manson (Antichrist Superstar, Portrait, and Mechanical Animals)- Manson started and fueled my goth transformation back in 1996. I got sucked down the rabbit hole.
3. Fischerspooner- reminded me of this time, at this club...
4. Soundrack to Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club- reminds me of when I was but a wee lass LOL.
5. Nine Inch Nails- there were many parties that went on all night long to this band
6. Daft Punk- The first song I heard in 2001- I was cocktailing at a Downtown nightclub, Club Spy. Man, those were the days!
7. Billy Idol- Thanks buddy, it's because of you that I found out that yes, I CAN pole dance!
8. Prince- My "sister" had an obsession, and so did my mother. I met him in 01 and danced with him at my club after hours. He's FUN sized LOL!
9. Wine and Alchemy/E Muzeki- something about this music steals my soul away. I hear it and I go to another time and place
10. The Cure/Tool/311- My kids, it was some of their favorite when they were babies/in utero.
11. The Cure- Pictures of You/Breaking Benjamin- Who Wants To Live Forever- reminds me to be more careful of who I let in
12. ABBA- my first trip to Scarby with Jessica and Guinny. HILARITY!
