I don't remember ever seeing a thread on this before, but it seems like a good idea!

Does anyone know of regular/upcoming costuming workshops?  Maybe we could keep a running list...

Hello!

In Northern and Southern California, there will be held workshops every other month to create a complete outfit from 1565. Workshops are not paid, we will provide information on what you need to have with you in order to make the pieces for each workshop.  We are here to help each other to make an awesome outfit!!  We are focusing on: England, France, Spanish, Portuguese and the Italian City States.

So all of you Historical Fashionistas?? Let's Get our Garb on!

We are beginning with undergarment!!

January 17, 2010 in Northern California
January 24, 2010 in Southern California

So here is some information if you can come? Please send me a note off list and
I will give you the addresses and information!

Come and join the fun!

Work towards having an entire outfit during the year, come and meet others who
share your passion for sewing or garbmaking. Make new friends, this is a
potluck so bring something yummy to feed at least 5 others!

Here is the list of things you will need to have with you to work on the
undergarment:
Sewing Machine
Basic Sewing Supplies

Fabrics can be: Linen 3.5 ounces or 'Handkerchief weight' or less,Cotton Muslin,
Silk, All need to be pre washed and ironed.

Note: If you want a Smock/Shirt longer than thigh length you will need to bring
at least 4 yards depending on your height.
If you are larger than a mundane size 22, please bring 4.5 yards.

I am in cahoots with a Costumer up in the Twin Cities, putting together some Costume panels for the 2011 CONVergence gathering. These panels would be well attended.

The ideas for upcoming panels will center on.....

RECREATING COSTUMES FROM FILMS (I have been asked to chair that panel)
HAT MAKING (I will demonstrate Hats I have made)
THE HISTORY OF POPULAR COSTUME GENRES (Goth, Steampunk, Anime, and so forth)

Well the first set of workshops are now done, the next will be Pairs of Bodyes and Petticoats in March.
We had a blast doing them though and I hope? People learned things!

For those of you who are pining for workshops? Create them! That is what I have done, and I am sure others who want and need workshops in their areas.

Contact your local Faire and see if they have workshops for their guilds, I bet they do.  Speak with the SCA in your local branches they are all over the place and see if they have sewing nights or salons once a month or more.   Or better yet? Offer to host workshops in your area!  Also you don't have to have the expertise.

If you have a Friends of Faire type thing like we do in California, then again ask them if they host workshops to prepare for Faire Season.

You have to make things happen, and by working to find these things I bet you anything you will be able to find a workshop to meet new people and well perhaps learn a thing or 2 or better yet teach someone else!
