greetings all...

after much contemplation, a new craft coordinator has been named.  he is a very cool and inspiring gentleman--brian o'leary.  he has volunteered for the job and his resume is extremely strong.  his work in coordinating volunteer and charity events throughout the greater houston area is impressive.  he is much more organized than myself and will hit the ground running.

he can be reached at:

brian@swf-faire.com or
vendors@sherwoodforestfaire.com

offer him the respect and cooperation the position deserves.

he will be a strong advocate for the artists, artisans and vendors.  share your ideas with him as to means to improve the quality of the faire.

we will be talking after year one is over about ideas of creating a crafts council...to be composed of the folk who invest their time, talents and monies in the building of booths, selling of wares, etc.

for all the vendors who have not turned in their contracts, their sales tax forms, their insurance forms, appropriate fees, etc...get on it now...as brian will be more apt to be aware of delinquencies than myself.

time if of the essence.

booths need to be completed
insurance, sales tax forms need to be turned in
fees need to be paid

vendor packets should be coming out from brian's office some time within the first week in february.

remember that sherwood believes the artists, artisans and vendors should and will be as integral a part of the illusion of the faire as the actors...so hone up on your english accents, get your costumes in fine order, and assure us that you will be giving it your all.

we are all a part of this dream...and if we all give it our best, our rewards will be magnified and much more meaningful.

final notes:  vendors are required to:

1. have 5# fire extinguishers within their booths/tents, but out of sight
2. nothing modern exposed in the faire booths
3. live the period
4. no vehicles behind booths can be visible from within the faire grounds
5. permanent booths much have their booth number clearly visible from within the faire grounds
6. no smoking in your booth
7. be prompt and on time for the faire every day
8. booth owners are responsible for the conduct of their employees
9. costumes must be complete -- head to toe
10. the english accent must be attempted by every sales person, artisan, vendor
11. no open fires around your booths or campsites
12. do not sneak in wares that were not expressly approved/juried in by the faire
13. be kind to toads
14. don't stink--vendors, hippies as they may or may not be, are presenting to the public...and while stinking is the one period thing that was most accurate, it wont fly in sherwood. personal hygiene is expected
15. engage the patrons. have fun with them.  have your own story within the plot of sherwood.
16. all exposed booth materials must be period, in appearance.  no modern shingles.  no tin showing. no electrical cords exposed.  no lighting uncovered and concealed.

more later.

peace and great wishes for a fantastic first year,

10. English accent. There are several Internet sites that offer help with BFA (Basic Faire Accent).

Old English, as practiced in the time of Robin Hood, would not be understandable to most "American" English speakers.

Here's the first few lines of Chaucer's Canterbury Tale in Old English, which I was taught to memorize in high school 40 years ago (admitted I only remember the first 20 or so line, but I understand them):

Here bygynneth the Book of the Tales of Caunterbury

Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed every veyne in swich licour,
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
5 Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halfe cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,

Sorry to take up a minute of your time as I know you are busy but wanted to double check 2 things.
1. Would it be correct to assume that old style lanterns burning a candle would not be allowed in the evening time at the booth?
2. Im sure I am reading into this to much but better safe then sorry. If we submitted photos etc. of items (example a arrow quiver and we now have 2 different style this is not going to be a problem is it.?)
