I would like to know if anyone knows where I can get metal aglets to put on the ends of my laces.  I have only found suppliers from the UK and want to find one in the US.

Historic enterprises carries some nice ones.  You could probably findsome modern ones cheaper, but I'm sure you'll find somehing else you like while you're there.

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted, a forum member, uses them.  I think she gets them from Pillaged Village, but not sure.  You could send her a renmail and she could confirm where she buys them.

I found some super cheep on e-bay by searching for "bolo tips"... like on the western type ties.  Small but pretty.

Baroness de Vale

Yep, definitely Pillaged Villagehttp://www.pillagedvillage.com/. Also I found a bunch at Hobby Lobby as bolo tips. Not sure what I paid for them.

I did the same as Amy.... searched for "bolo tips" on a few sites... had much better luck.  After all, who but historical costumers ever even HEARD of the word "aiglets"?  :D

I order Gold Filigree aglets from www.pillagedvillage.com by the gross because I go through so many.

Bolo tips, which I use for cording for corsets and bodices, I have bought from Hobby Lobby and from Fire Mountain Gems.

I just put in an order to www.firemountaingems.com for more 6mm White Glass Pearls and Bolo tips. Good prices for a package of 100. That should last me a long time.

Thank you ladies for you assistance.  I would never have thought to search bolo tips.  I also just received my Fire Mt catalog and found them in there.

AS for the Period Shanked buttons from the Renaissance Tailor store, NO way WILL WAY would  I ever pay $125 for 3 dozen!!  I can make those myself. They are not hard to do!

One takes a bead,  goes through the center of the bead hole and makes 6 ribs. Then starting from top to bottom, either sews under or over each rib until one reaches the bottom. The 5" or theresbouts of thread is tied together, threaded through the needle, shanked and sewn onto a garment. For the shanked buttons I have made, I use Embroidery Floss.

About how long should the aglets be (looking at Ebay at bolero tips and there are different sizes) if you want to put 3-4 approx. 18" feathers in 1 of them?

I want to buy long enough tips so the ends of the feathers do not fall out.  Thanks.
