Some of you might know I have started a thread for the development of a fisherman character. I have has some basic garb in the past, but this year I am shooting for something a bit more HA.

Original thread is here

Well, I found a more natural colored ren shirt from Tudor Shoppe Here

Now I am torn between a plain doublet / jerkin or a "sailors vest"

From the paintings I have seen it looks like these all would work and mostly worn open. These would go with a simple, brown pair of Ren Breeches

I already have a ring belt, pouch and muffin cap.

For accessories I am making a net using traditional means, tying flies on hook and leader in the traditional way to wear in my hat and most likely (depending on time and resources) a dip net or traditional fishing pole.

Just looking for suggestions and constructive criticism.

that sailor's vest looks a little over the top, I'm not sure how good of a fit that would be. But the jerkin you showed, I believe, would be wonderful with the garb set you're planning.

Best of luck!

Thanks TKM, I was a little worried about that vest my self, glad to have some feed back!

That sailor's vest looks pretty feminine to me, it looks almost like a bodice without boning.  I would go with the jerkin myself, it looks more like what would be most appropriate for fishing to me.

I agree with Sitara. I like the look of the Jerkin, and that sailor's vest is definitely feminine.

As of now, I went with the Jerkin, it just seems what a lower class fisherman would wear. Thanks everyone for all the input! I shall have some pictures soon!

For a H/A tuddor look, instead of a muffin cap, I would recommend a Thrum Cap or Monmouth Cap.  Also in this period men would remove their pants before they would go shirtless so a linnen shirt is a must.  A good resource is eknautical.com.  They are affilitated with the SCA and are actually Tuddor era pirates but the dress and nautical terms would be the same regardless.  Hope this helps!
