Milord and I are working on a Gimli ensemble for him. He's recently finished the tooling on a pair of leather gauntlets, and as his birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, he's expressed some interest in trying his hand at chain mail.

We've ordered from the Ring Lord in the past (bought his brother a coif kit), but I'm finding myself totally overwhelmed by the variety in their "starter kits." It's like there's too much of the wrong kind of information, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

Can anyone help? We'd take recommendations for other vendors, too!

No need to buy a kit.  All it takes is wire, a mandrel, a cutter, and a couple pairs of pliers.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/trevor.barker/farisles/guilds/armour/mail.htm has basic and in depth instructions.
