My weiner needs a name

Now that I have your attention my new dachshund puppy needs a name and I'm flat stumped.  Our previous weiner was named Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

We've had dachshund companions for over forty years.  We generally name them for some unique characteristic.  Houdini, the escape artist.  Cricket the jumper.  Scooter who's always moving at warp 10.  (To list a few.)

We've also found that it's best to have at least two.  They were bred as pack critters and, although they make excellent companions, they get a lot of exercise playing with each other and keep each other company when we're not around.  We've also found that males tend to get along better when there are no girls in the mix.  For us, things have worked best with an all male crew.  Companions not intended for breeding should also be neutered at an age of six months.  We've found that we have no trouble with furniture being marked when this is done and it also eliminates the risk for some forms of cancer.

Since this isn't your first dachshund, you know that their backs can be injured fairly easily so support both ends when picking them up.  It's generally impossible to keep them from jumping, but pet steps help.

I was a bit concerned about his size since they should probably stay with their mothers until they're ten to twelve weeks old.

They are stubborn and very curious but real joys as companions.

We always make sure that their outside area is proof against digging out.  We also have ours inside with us at night.  They have no difficulty using a pet door.

AWwww, what a cute puppy! I love dogs. I have a dachshund mix dog, he's mostly black, with a bit of brown on his legs and face. He was a rescue and he's one of the best dogs I have had.

I also have a female Keeshond and my son's male black lab/border collie. The two smaller dogs get along fine, but the two males not as well, but it could be the size difference there.

Loving some of the names!

Carl-Our first weiner had the loving care of our already trained chocolate lab.  Unfortunately we lost both our lab and Henry (our previous weiner) within six months of each other and so he's all by himself at the moment.  I think we're going to end up going down to the local rescue and see if we can't find a mid sized dog to rough house with.  The puppy is actually three months old and we can not wait until he's six months...our flea medication isn't usable till six months of age and he's been just wonderful about bringing his "friends" in after going to the bathroom.

And while they may be stubborn and curious they are also quick learners.  I try to use the positive reinforcement method for training but when he does something that is potentially life threatening (like chewing on the power cable to my computer) he gets a little spanking...and thankfully he hasn't tried to repeat it.

Yes they are quite intelligent and learn quickly.  I've found that a loud clap along with a loud "NO!!" works quite well.  I've also tapped them on the nose with a loud "NO!!".

Most of my comments weren't directed at you, but more to tell folks who might not have had dachshunds in their lives a bit about them.

We presently have three but we've had as many as five.  Two are brothers and are eight years old.  They're tweenies.  The third is a large mini.  In the past, we always had standards--one as large as 34 pounds and not fat.  Unfortunately, as you get older, the need to downsize increases.

Our first was a smooth, but we've alway had long haired since then.

They are a lot of fun.

I had a bunch of names for my neighbors two weiners because they would poop all over my yard and bark like mad everytime I stepped outside!  You don't want to know those names!  (bad dog people suck!).

Doxies can be great little buggers to have around, cute as heck!...I'd probably call it "Shnitzle".  Nice new addition you got there.
