Do you wear before you faire?

I am just curious...mostly because I am sitting here in my completed garb(granted there isn't much to it), doing mundane chores and work, getting the feel for weight of the fabric, its movement, sweat factor :-\, comfort, etc before the faire next weekend.

Does anyone else do this aside from  fitting and accessorizing to see how it looks?

Alas, no. Life at home is not really conducive to garbing, plus getting *into* it is such a production.  I will say that I very much wanted to live in my hand-sewn hanky-linen shift when I finished it. It was *that* soft.

Will we see you (and the new garb) opening weekend of GSLRF?

Alas, mine is also too much a production to wear around the house.
Not to mention the hallways are slightlyy too narrow.

I actually consider my garb my REAL clothes and the stuff I wear to work, my "costume"! LOL! I would LOVE to walk into the Museum in full garb...well, minus the sword...don't really want that swinging into cases or anything...oh, and the horsetail...really wouldn't be comfy sitting at my desk...but outside of that...black leather is always comfortable!
I can be one of those "bad things" that happen to bad people.

If I've made something, no matter 'dane or faire, I HAVE to wear it around the house for a few, just to get the feel of the thing.  Especially if I've done a good job...

Margaret

I usually 'test drive' my skirts after I hem them to make sure I won't trip on them.  I walk around the house to test them on floor like surfaces.  I walk in my back yard to see how they act in grass.  Down the drive way and on to the road in front of our house to see how the act of walking will affect them.

I do not do full garb around the house but at least my neighbors have gotten used to seeing me walking down the street in a t shirt and my skirts.   :D

I shall need to test drive my 18th C kit to get used to it - especially the train on the ball gown and the pocket hoops!  I shall need to practice visiting the po in those...   ;D

I don't wear my garb to do chores but I LOVE sleeping in my smocks!

I will test most garb at least for a few moments to see fit, hang etc. I will also walk in skirts to make sure the hem isn't too long. I made the mistake of not testing these things in the past....and it wasn't pretty in the end.  :-X

I've done that too!

Most of my skirts I wear with tank tops about town and (to my knowledge) no one knows any better.

I don't usually, but I have my granddaughters wear theirs, to make sure they fit, aren't too long, etc. I have them walk on the grass and on the patio.

Yes!  A few days before fair I try on and wear what I'm going to wear to fair that weekend.  It's a must for me to walk around and see how everything goes together.  This process takes me a few hours but on fair day I know exactly what I need to put on and how to do it.

thankfully they made the entire cast live in garb for a full day before opening gate....Ifound out the uncomfortable way that the corset that seemed just fine in the short term was gonna chew a hole in my back if worn all day without alterations...If you can do it, its a plus!

I'll be looking for you at GSLRF!!

Keno

I wear them from time to time just to make sure that each part of my garb works with each other and fit.  I like to practice my speech and dance in them so I don't fall on my face lol.

Like, it seems, quite a few others, I love wearing my smocks to bed.  They are so comfy.   I think I have a very different take since I do SCA/Pennsic.   I tend to wear my garb to SCA events first and, if they survive Pennsic, they'll survive anything.

I'll try it on for a minute prior to wearing it all day at an event/faire just to get the length, general feel.   The only time I've had issues at faire is when one of those stupid lacing rings pop because I didn't sew it in tight enough.  Grr....  But that's typically a quick fix and something I can do on the spot with my sewing kit.
