Help! Alter Years Patterns

I just got 2 patterns from Alter Years. One for a nobleman's/noblewoman's shirt/chemise and one for a doublet. What I was wondering was if anyone knows if these patterns work like say McCalls or Simplicity, or is the seam allowance different? If so, by how much?

I have the Alter Years Shirt/Chemise pattern and I LOVE IT!! Thatn is the one I use for all nobleman's Shirts and Women's Chemises.

The pattern calls for a 1/2" seam allowance. I usually make the next size up and do the standard 5/8" seam allowance.

I'm about to start on my oldest son's new garb. I will take pictures and list updates. I have an embroidery machine and found a couple of blackwork patterns that will work on my machine. I know it's not exactly HA, but I have alot of garb to make this year and not alot of time. I would appreciate any input.

Okay, well I do like the Doublet pattern

However? I don't like the Dolman sleeves that are made with the Smock pattern and it takes WAYYYYYY too much fabric.  Smocks for even my size (16/18) I use only 3.5 yards for a very full High Necked Smock.  I think I used almost 5 yards last time I used the Smock pattern.  So I would say if you are using linen, your bang for the buck is Dawn's Shirt Pattern.  I also do not like how the shirt tapers going to the waist as well.

I have used the doublet pattern for myself and family I have not had an issue with it, but I do like how Margo's Pattern works for people with busts.

Thanks for the heads up on the tapering. I want the boy to have plenty of room. I'm used to the standard patterns that you find at Hancock's or Walmart, so I'm a little nervous about using something new.

I can attest that I have made 20 of the Alter Years pattern.  However? Check out this one for free, I am in the midst of making my own as I documented the High Necked Smock in Bath, England.

I can promise you it is very simple and easy to do and it fits the first time every time, now again I am working on one but it is not ready so hold on and I will send it out to all who want to try it!!!

Cilean, that pattern of Dawn's was going to be my very next step if I couldn't get Frankensmock to work.  I'm glad to hear it works well!

Do let us know when your Bath pattern is complete. Such an exciting project!!
