Question about Fairies at Faire?

I frankly think it depends on the maturity of the child and how well they handle fantasy and life in general. You can't just expect every fairy, whether patron or cast, to be dressed up in tulle and sprinkling glitter everywhere (No disrespect to anyone who dresses or behaves as such, as it is nice to see cheerful fairies :) ).

It also depends on the parents escorting the child around the faire and knowing that child's limits. If they know their son/daughter is easily scared, spare them the photo op with the fairy woman dressed all in black and that's wearing heavy makeup. Please don't blame it all on them and allow people to take responsibility on this matter.

Synikul, I like your interpretation of a male fairy. It reminded me some of Brian Froud's darker, not-so nice fairies, like in Good Faeries, Bad Faeries.

Heaven knows I love the fantastikals from Bristol, and Twig is a force all to herself.  However, two of the most wonderful fairies I ever met were large fairies, in full tutu with other regalia, the Fairie Godmothers two years ago at Bristol.  Last year, one of them became co-director of FOF, so there was no more Fairie Godmothers, but her sister the other fairie did I believe come at least once in her fairie garb.

And BTW, if Hippopotamuses in Tutus were good enough for Walt Disney (Fantasia) they're good enough for me.  Not that I want Bristol to become Disneyland like another faire I know which shall remain nameless, but I'd much rather hug a soft squishy cuddly fairie than one who looks as if (s)he's thrown up everything they've ever eaten.  Fat Fairies Fly Further between Fillups  ;D

Down here in Texas we have Leonard playing "The Fairy Godfather" complete with tutu and Italian accent, chomping on a great big (fake) cigar!

I agree... I LOVE faires that come in all sizes and genders. As far as the scary faires... yes, I use them in my haunted events, but they are not GOTHISH faires, but instead they are GOULISH. But its the place for them and the patrons and children alike expect to be scared for fun. I have seen some really really scary fairies at several of our Texas Faires. But, as someone said higher in the post, your gonna get all kinds.

Fat faerie here! lol Ok, not on cast, but in Texas, it's the most comfortable garb you can wear and still feel girly! I tend to go with harvest colors, or other natural themes, so I just say I represent natures bounty, if asked- NO ONE has ever asked!

AuntieGiggles and I sometimes go as fairies with my daughters.  Sometimes we have been the 4 seasons and other times we are whatever fairy we decide to be that day.  Giggles is either a Fallen Fall Fairy (sort of an anti-Twig she says.)  My oldest daughter is a Water Fairy- in fact she has decided that she is Waterlily Diamondshimmer Dazzlesplash, Queen of the Water Fae!  My middle daughter is a Fire Fairy- Marigold Firefly Dazzlestar.  The baby is a Spring Fairy- name changes each time!  I have a couple of different fairy outfits and thus names- depends on if I'm preggo or not!
The only thing that "bothers" me with Fairies at Fest are when the person doesn't come up with their own fairy personna and just try to BE Twig.  She has her own thing and it works for her, she has worked long and hard on her personna and although it CAN be seen as flattery I believe that everyone should find their own inner fae.  It is different if it is a child, but adults should "know" better.  But thats just me.  =D
