I have a 2001 Olds. Alero.  It gets about 23 mpg, I think.  Its mainly used to get me back and forth to work so its fine for that.  I'm close to 100K miles and hoping it will make it another year and be paid off. :D  I would love a hybrid but don't know that I have the credit to buy a new vehicle at a decent monthly payment.

My hubby has a 2004 Ford Explorer Sporttrac, which gets about the same mileage as my car!  We use it for most of our running around and travel since my hubby is more comfortable in it.  The only bad thing about it is that U-haul won't rent a trailer to us because it's technically an Explorer. >:(

Don't let the mileage be scarin' ye. Keep the oil clean, the timing belt fresh, radiator flushed and the beast should run over 200k. Me wifes crackerbox '92 went 285k before the unibody fell apart, motor still runnin' great. Me '95 Toyota  has 270k and runs fantastically fer a pick-up that has been thourghly abused ;D over the years.
My intentions are to commandeer a venue, sail to Tortuga, then pick, strum and otherwise play me weasily black guts out.

Even though she is currently air-cooled and the back driver-side window is stuck in the half-way down position, I love my 40mpg Kia Sephia...but the stick shift is still a b*tch sometimes....

If it was a Toyota or a Honda, I wouldn't be worried!  But I've had a bad experience with another Olds. in the past...

Well the two main modes of transport are my 2005 PT cruiser convertible, which I bought in anticipation of going to S.C. for a contracting job and I did not think my 84 Chrysler LeBaron T/C convrtible would take the constant drive back and forth on weekends.  However it looks like the contracting job is not going to materialize so......................   My wife drive a 2003 Honda Element which we both love, especially with the rear suicide doors makes getting in and out a breeze, especially for those of us that are size enhanced.   Those are the major modes, then for the occasional trip to the auto shop to drop off or pick up one of the cars that I am restoring I have a 92 Dodge Diesel 1 ton Dually pickup that hauls my car trailer .  For recreation and/or when I can afford it again we have a 1994 29' class c motorhome.  We just finished a trip to St Louis to attend the faire there.  That will no doubt be the last trip with that rig at least until November when we have to go to Mobile for the Gulf Coast faire.    As for the afore mentioned antique cars:  3 Packards, 2 Dodge Dart Convertibles, 1 1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer 4 dr hardtop, and for sale(yeah right) 1 1964 Dodge Dart Convertible and 1 1962 Dodge Dart 440 4dr sedan.  That does not include a few parts cars around the area that I am taking parts off of.

1997 Ford Taurus SHO (V8) - great for trips at about 28mpg, but only 14 or so city. I only live a few miles from work, maybe I'll just buy a bike...

I have a 2006 Toyota Prius Hybrid and average 50.2 to 51 MPG. I have to say, once gas reached even $2.50 a gallon was my cut off and i was an SUV guy for many years. I researched these for a long time and after about a 3 month wait back then I got it. It is a good size and has storage like my blazers did. In the city under 40 I can keep it on electric most of the time. My last trip up north last weekend for rehearsal 4 hours away and then back I got 50.7.

'03 Caddy Deville for me at ~28mpg on the highway and 19mpg in town (not bad for a 300hp engine) and a '04 Dodge Dakota 4x4 for the wife at ~16-18mpg no matter what.
Thanks,

Tom

I love my truck, unfortunately it also loves gas...lots and lots of gas...

I drive a 2003 Ford F250 with a V10 ... nuf said

Yeah, it's a gas-guzzler but you can't pull a horse trailer, livestock trailer or lowboy trailer loaded down with over 150 bales of hay with a car or a hybrid... and just last weekend it came in real handy to haul mulch in for the flower beds.  Plus, I drive less than 5 miles to get to work, less than 5 miles to church, less than 5 miles to the grocery store, less than 1 mile to WalMart and my son rides the school bus. There are advantages to living in a small town. Going to faire though, well, that can get expensive...

I drive a 2001 ford ranger, 20ish miles to the gallon and thankfully only a 10 minute drive to work.
Last year the drive was about 45 miles each way and the gas was killing me then... I can only imagine what it would be like now...

The Lovely Lady Trinn drives a Scion XB and LOVES it, gets about 27-28 on average and has enough room inside to store gear for 7 people camping at fair and still have room for 3 to sit comfortably.
When we were shopping for her car, we honestly looked at those two factors the most... gas mileage and how much ren-gear we could hold in it.

*the rum only takes up one bin for a weekend so it counts as part of the ren gear too*

I only get 22 mpg and no a/c but I love it anyways....

Hey that's my 91 Caprice Classic behind wenchies bug, ceptin mines white &silver. I haven't put much gas in it since I bought this 93 Suzuki 800 which I have driven to work daily and it only costs me 14 bucks to fill it with high test every week, can you say sweeeeeet!

'99 Metro.  Yes, it's barely bigger than I am & tends to be draggy when my son rides with - it's okay w/one fat person, but is distinctly offput by two.  It's also got a lot of room in the back if you put the seat down.

I ride a 2000 model Dutch Warmblood gelding, mahogony bay w/ 4 white socks, great over fences!... LOL, ok ok.. that's what I rode today.

But seriously, to get from point A to B: 2005 Saturn Vue, 4 cyl standard shift.  It gets about 28mpg, so I get pretty good mileage and GREAT cargo space!  However, I'm driving so much lately that I'm going to be getting my old Honda motorcycle out to drive to/from the barn and some to school.  Just need to get a new helmet...  Mine is seriously icky.
I don't know what you've heard, none of it is factual, but it's all true.
