Boning + Buttons...?

So the Much Ado bodice has this adorable button closure:

Normally I would put boning at the lacing edges of a bodice, but I don't know if I should do that here. On the movie version the buttons look like they're pretty close to the edge, so there's probably no room for boning. And I think it might be hard to actually work the buttons if there's a row of boning right there. OTOH, will the edges bunch up? There will be four layers of fabric plus interfacing along the buttonholes, and they don't appear to be bunching on my mockup, so...?

Thoughts?

I don't think boning would be a problem. I suggest you use a narrow metal boning at the very edge. If constructed well the edges could be folded in and used to create a pocket for it. The button holes will be next to this pocket/boning instead of dealing with all the layers - and you will get the straight, smooth ending as in the movie costume.
