I totally lucked out this year when my renlet decided she wanted to be a pirate!  Not even a "fancy" pirate, either, but a basic deckhand... which means I have one t-tunic to sew for her, and the rest we already have, so she'll be set for both days!  Cuts my work in half, at least...

Oh Rani...I wish!  It seems my Dirt Fairy gets more and more sophisticated tastes every time we go to faire!  lol   She like's pretty things...I wonder where she get's that from???

Mine likes the pretty things... to hang in her room!    She's starting to show a marked preference for wearing things that will let her run, jump fight and shoot, and I don't think Pirate will satisfy her for long... she's been eying leather armor lately, and even a bit of chain maille...    I'm pretty sure she'll eventually just go Viking if it will also mean she can wear fur and carry a crossbow, sword, dagger and full set of throwing knives... and maybe even a battle axe, as well!    I think we might need to spend a bit of time with Morgana during AHE... so they can gossip about the best places to conceal sharp pointies!   

She keeps pointing out the archery range to me... and reminding me that the local SCA has a kids version of the Fight Guild...  LOL

Rani, if she starts to show signs of becoming a serious arms and armor buff (in comparison to a boffer wielding re-enactor) I would suggest pointing her in the direction of such groups as ARMA (Association for Renaissance Martial Arts).  If all she wants to do is play (and theres nothing wrong with that) then the sca is the way to go.

Oh, no... she's serious.  At King's Champion MF she got to shoot a cross bow (with a rubber ball covering the end of the blunt arrow shaft) at a LIVE TARGET... and there was no hesitation in her at all.  In fact, her pride in herself at achieving two "instant kill" marks (both would have taken him in the eye if it weren't for the steel cage he wore on his head) in a row was just a little... worrisome!    heheh  Our local SCA has a program for kids where they actually teach combat with live steel, appropriately armored, of course, but I haven't had much time to check into it. 

She's very much interested in the real thing, though, and not just playing around with it.  Even when we watch "historical" movies, her favorite parts are the fight scenes, and she's always trying to puzzle out how something was done.  I'll check out ARMA, though.  Thanks for the tip!!!

~ This Weekend doesn't count because I will be sewing and crying in my beer during the Texas VS. OU Football Game! 

~The Wednesday before Faire doesn't count because I will be chaperoning my daughter's field trip...yep that's right...I will be molding the minds of young kids!!! MMMMMMMMUUUUUUUUUUAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!  

~ The Thursday before Faire doesn't count because I am a Landgrabber and will be leaving early Thursday morning to stake out McLot camp...

~The Friday before Faire doesn't count because I will be drinking beer at the campground...so faire has already started for me!

Rani - Ravic has recommended a great show, and the performances at 1:30 and 3:30 pm at The Academy of Arms are designed for children.  I think your renlet will thorougly enjoy it.

Ummm, Jules... if you are a landgrabber, does that mean you will be spending Thursday night IN the campground, and if you are, wouldn't you just naturally be there drinking beer THAT night, as well? 

So, if this is, in fact, your plan... does that shave ANOTHER day off your count?
