I know this is probably a random question but its been milling in the back of my mind all week.
For those of you who bring your own mugs to faire and fill them up at the pubs.
How do they charge you for it??
At least at my local faire you pay $x.xx for a glass of mead or bear- usually one of those 6-8oz plastic cups or you pay for the yard.

I am making tooled leather mugs for milord and I and would like to have them filled with mead. Our mugs would be more in the 16oz-32oz range.
Do you go up to the barkeep/wench early in the day and figure out a cost ??

I would love to know how you do it.
Thanks

I am a beer wench at MNRF, and if you bring a mug up to my pub that will hold more than one beer we will pour you two, and charge you for two.. If both glasses don't fit in the mug, the patron must stand at the bar and finish what is left in the plastic cup before walking away..

We will only sell a total of two beers to one person at a time though even if their mug will hold 10!

~Cheers!

That's the way I've always seen it done at both Scarby and TRF, also, but without the limit on number, as far as I'm aware.  You buy whatever the mug will hold, and pour them in yourself.  You can carry the cups away with you, though.

Considering that I am tipsy after the second glass of mead
and milord wouldn't drink more than two beers- that sounds reasonable to me.

Filling my "average" size leather mug with my favorite beverage...mead...would cost me $18.00.  This is why I never fill my "average" mug with my favorite beverage.  :(

And THAT is why most Faires don't allow you in the gate with anything in your mug!

Usually I'll just buy the drink, and then pour it into my mug myself. That solves all problems! At least for me. I don't use a tankard sized mug. They're just too big to be practical with my outfits.

Scarby has to dispense in their own cups, then you (or they) will transfer to your container, so every portion is controlled. It also seems that the beer prices at Scarby have inched up considerably in the past 3-4 years. Not being from Texas, I don't know...have taxes in Texas (hmm...an anagram...) gone up a lot?  $5.50 seems a lot for a 12oz beer.

People just trying to make a buck, my friend.  I learned NOT to buy beer at the Sea Devil but instead head around the corner to the Bloody Bull... 16oz vs. 12oz for the same price.  2 draw backs though.  Your choices are limited and it's in cans.  I'll take 2 16oz cans of Bass over 2 12 oz drafts of Sam Adams, any day.  When there is a cooler within walking distance, i'll take a hike and power drink. ;D

We have pewter mugs to be filled.  At TRF they will pour the beer from the cup into the mug for you.  Most places will also give you free ice in you mugs as well.  Which is nice when I buy a soda for mixing but don't drink the whole thing at once.  Only issue I have ever had is an ice filled pewter mug is VERY cold!!!
Don't delay, taste a tart today!

I actually rather like that effect!  I appreciate it with my tin lined copper mug, as well.  Anything that's nice and frosty on a hot day is always welcome!
