Hello All,

So I've searched through the past threads but there doesn't seem to be quite what I'm looking for. I need at least 24 buttons for the sleeves of a kirtle (cotehardie? I've seen the two terms used for the same garment recently) and i would like them to be metal (they don't have to be fancy), rather than making my own. Any good sources?

I'm scouring the ebay at the moment, and they have the lot sizes that I'm looking for but I'm worried about the shipping time. I need the dress for an event on the 30th of Oct and all the Ebay stuff seems to be shipping from Hong Kong with a 14-23 business day shipping time X.x

I figure the knowledgeable folks here might have some insights. :)

Any help appreciated.

What size do you need?  I found a site that I get most of my bulk items from.  When I was doing the 4 pirate coats, and 6 vests last year I used them to get my buttons by the dozen. Typically a dozen metal buttons is between $3-4 per dozen.

http://www.cleanersupply.com/products/category.cfm?cID=8  In their 'tailoring' section you can find anything you need.  The metal buttons they carry are either 5/8" or 7/8".  I used the 7/8" as my pirate coat buttons, and the 5/8"  I have used on someof my ladies dresses and for cuffs. The shipping for them is $4 up to $100 value of product.  From there you get free shipping.  It usually takes a week to get to you.  You can get it tomorrow but you pay for it!

FYI I love their prices on thread.  I typically put in an order for thread ever 3 months, and what I get lasts a VERY long time. I also get my rigaline boning, elastic by the spool, and velcro by the spool from them.  Saved us alot of money the past year.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

While their on line catalouge is down, www.pillagedvillage.com has nice metal buttons. I order from PV for a lot of the buttons I use for Pirate coats and garb. There is a catalouge in the pdf format that can help.

JHB doesn't sell to the public, but they can direct you to one of their local suppliers. I have bought some of their buttons through Golden D'Or fabrics in the past.

We went through the same ordeal searching for pirate coat buttons. I think we actually looked for over a year. I was ready to break down and make my own molds to cast them but my wife found a bulk source online. I'll see if she remembers where we got them...

Any idea when they'll be back up? I was hoping to buy some trim from them.

And once it is back, I second them for buttons. I ordered a few dozen buttons from them a couple months ago, and I love them!
