I'm putting together my wizard robes for TRF, and it looks incomplete. I've got the basic pieces done--an outer robe made of light brown linen, a surcoat made of dark brown burlap, and a tunic made of muslin I dyed a dark brown (tunic not pictured). I've got a small bag I wove, which you can see, and a pouch that's underneath the robe; and two throwing axes (you can see them faintly in the picture). I'm working on a hat, which is about halfway done. I've also got a rather magical looking walking stick (also not pictured).

I've put the entire look together, and it seems somehow...incomplete. My character's name is Drudonn Thorn, a wizard of the wilds--everything is in shades of brown, to fit that theme. What sort of things should I incorporate into my garb to make it look more lived in? Little odds and ends that I would have picked up over the years, living mostly in the woods and wild places of the world...

thanks for the help

Do you have a belt on this? Maybe you can attach a bundle of dried herbs or a small dangling glass of some elixir or specimen of some sort.

If you are a woods wizard then I would anticipate some clinging forest items to the robe such as moss, leaves, sticks, etc.  Put a little mouse or squirrel under your cap (fake of course!).  Wrap vines/leaves around your staff.  Add something celestial such as a star compass (you can find them online, print, convert/transfer to whatever material you want).  Bed roll, for sleeping in the woods.  Animal calls.  Add vines/leaves, moss, or wicker to the hat.  "Tear" a hole in the hat for the mouse to look thru.  Rocks, just because. ;)

This is what I was thinking too! :)

These are excellent suggestions. I wanted to also add some pictures of wizards that I've taken at faires, that I think, for the most part, work well and might give you more ideas.

Since you're a woods wizard I would stay away from jewels/gold all together.  Only use things found in the woods.  And you would be surprised how much is out there!  Have you just taken a leisurely walk thru the woods for inspiration?

I would also be careful about using animal parts (fur, bones).  You would be the animals' friend after all.  If you do use a skull/bone/fur then say it was from a dear animal companion, perhaps with magical powers itself, and it's wish was for you to be able to use those powers for good after it died.  Something like that.

I did not see it mentioned in your list, but everyone seems to be assuming you have one.  Since it hasn't been explicitly mentioned yet...you need a hat!  Or some sort of head wear.  A circlet of some sort could also work well, but no proper wizard goes around bare headed.  :)

I'm about halfway done making my hat, so I've got that covered  ;)

I think you need an amulet or six around your neck.

I was thinkning along these line as well, and you are gong to have to dirty/muddy up the lower hemlines, they wouldn't be clean through all your wanderings in the woods/wilds.
