Please tell me more about THESE HATS.

What are they?

Where can I get one or two or more?

ArielCallista

I've seen tons before, but have yet to see a vendor with them...they are very simple tho so I'm sure you could find someone to make you one or a billion lol...in fact I have made one for myself...
Things are shaping up to be...
Pretty. Odd.

Eric the Ugly

Oddly, I keep seeing them in pics taken at TRF or Scarborough, which made me figure that there was a vendor (same?) at both that sold them.

Almost reminds me of smoking caps/hats from the 19th century!

I've seen those around too. Some of the musicians like to wear them.  Reminds me a bit of a Turkish hat, but definitely with a Ren faire flare with the fabrics. I'm betting you are right and there's a shop at faire that sells them.  Do you have a list of TRF or Scarby vendors? Maybe that could help with the search.

Lady Kett

There is a hat vendor sort of on the corner near the Whismey Stage, near the Jousting area at Scarborough that sells them. The other hat vendors may but I've bought one at this location, I just can't remember their name.

The gypsy contingent uses those hats a lot! I think they're adorable!

I went through the vendors list at the TRF website and went to every vendor that had a webpage listed under "Adornment" and "Clothiers" and no joy. :(

I'll guess that, whoever they are, they are one of the many ren vendors who (for some outstandingly bizarre reason) have no website (in this day in age! Sheesh!).  :-\

That vendor is Lionheart Hats.  They do amazing work, but as far as I can tell, they don't have a website.

The hat looks like a softer fabric version of a Pillbox that is worn on top of the head rather than off to the side or back of the head. Easy enough to make and line.

That hat seems to follow alot of cultures in the Middle east and through Africa and even into Asia. Would have been the Ottoman Empire during the Renaissance I guess.

I'll send Aavid a message and ask him where he got his hat!   Maybe that's a good start! It does look rather smart on him doesn't it!

Reminds me of the hats some African immigrants wear

Here's something similar called a "kufi"

The Kufi style hat is what I thought they looked like first;  I know I had seen a lot of them back in the 70's when 'Roots' was all the rage with African Americans.  They are very similar to this Islamic headgear: http://www.shukronline.com/mens-hats.html
Though I have to say the ones at faire are closer to what Lady Kathleen describes: A modified Pillbox hat ala Jackie Kennedy.
They look easy enough to make; a 1/2 yard of brocade would probably be more than enough to make a couple.

Due to the extra info here, I've done more digging and haven't found anything of great interest. Nothing worthwhile on Etsy using "kufi" or "pillbox", except the expected results.

It seems that Sofi's Stitches once offered a (rather boring) black velvet one that is still available at By The Sword, that they called the [ul=http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/Flemish_Pill_Hat_VL-PILLHAT.html]"Flemish Pill Hat"[/url]. I've no idea how accurate such a name is. I couldn't find anything supporting that, but then, I didn't look all that hard.

Unfortunate.
The hats in the pics in my original post are so incredibly cool looking. Heck, I might even be halfway decent-looking in one.
