greetings and well met, dear brothers and sisters of sherwood!

we are two weeks into the second year of our faire. gloomy (and inaccurate) weather predictions, other events competing with us, and the like have resulted in stagnant attendance.  our vendors are feeling the pinch.  but we are undaunted!!!

our faith in the business plan and marketing strategies (which have been exhaustive and extensive relative to our size) will win the day...when this season is finished.

we have billboards up all over central and south texas.  we distributed almost 300,000 brochures and postcards.  our volunteers entered more than 30 parades and festivals during the preseason.  we have hard copies running in major newspapers.  we have radio spots in austin, houston, bryan-college station and san antonio.  we have the best volunteer crew any faire could ask for out spreading the word.

but we need you, the patrons of sherwood, to invite folk to the faire, get them to visit the website, talk it up.  if you have any pull with local media, invite them to experience the magic of sherwood.  have them contact george (george@sherwoodforestfaire.com) or myself (rengypsy@sherwoodforestfaire.com).  we need to pack our faire grounds with families who's children will be the future reniies of sherwood.

our exit surveys and emails we receive daily say that sherwood rocks and is a grand place.  we just need more folk to walk through those gates.

our entertainers volunteered this weekend to ake a presence on the streets of cities during the week.  we have the best, most heart-felt, beautiful folk around us working toward the success of our faire and this community.

thanks for being a part, as well.  we need you all!

Rengypsy, I am going to be set up in Bryan for First Friday/Art Step.  I am part of the Farmer's Market and we will be at the church across from Village Cafe. I would love to pass out some flyers there but I don't have any. Or maybe you could have a file people could download and print themselves?

Will the info booth be stocked up on brochures/postcards that can be picked up - I'd like to drop a stack off in my office next week

We have handed out as many as we can and will continue to do so.
Any faire that supports the patrons and clans as you do will always have my support.

*Maybe free rum shots for teachers would help get more people in the gate? Just an idea lol*

I will stop by on Friday around 4 to pick some flyers up at Earth Art.  I will also make sure that there are some at the farmers market as well on Saturdays.

From this distance, it's hard to be of much help.  I'll wear my t-shirt frequently and will advise all who question me about it. Maybe you'll get some folks from central Arkansas, but I don't see hardly anyone around here that goes to faires.  :(

I have been talking it up big time, as has Nimue. We hope to bring a group next time we come down, but that likely won't be this season.

I'll grab some this weekend and put it up on the University of Houston campus

I know of folk who attend the rodeo, but I know of no one (with the exception of those who work booths there) that attend every single weekend.  Most people plan their attendance around what ever performer they want to see.  I doubt it has a great impact on Sherwood.

I'd like to second the idea of a flyer we can download and print.  I don't get to go many weekends, but I sure wouldn't mind handing them out here in Austin.

Well, I might have sparked some students into coming down for Spring Break! I showed photos from various photographers here to one of our student workers, and she sounded all excited about having some place to go for break! So, maybe I can influence and be some help. I'm sure going to try!

Any improvement in 3rd weekend? We're already planning next year's return and may have talked a couple of faire virgins into coming with us. The temperatures looked like they were perfect (at least for me).

Merlin the Elder, having seen your garb opening weekend both early morning and then later as it warmed up, I gotta tell you this weekend was your kind of temperature much of the day.  Sunday morning we triple layered using mundane as undergarb (granddaughter actually had on 2 pair of long pants, one flannel, one blue jean, under her skirt).  About 1:00 pm she finally took off one pair of pants and one long sleeved sweater.

This is a faire that people have a reasonable chance of wearing cloaks, heavy leather, multi-layered garb without suffering heat stroke.  Son-in-law actually gets to wear his knee length cape made of many skins and we ladies and elves wear hooded capes.

Looking forward to seeing you next year, hopefully on what we call a cold day down here!
