I picked up a magazine called Threads and really liked it.  I'm thinking about getting a subsciption.  Do you subscribe to any sewing magazines and if so, do you like them?

I get Sew News and creative Machine Embroidery. I use to get sew simple until they stopped publishing it. I have really enjoyed them and they have some cute projects in them from time to time. I have been think about gettin Threads.

A good friend of mine has been getting Threads for some time- I'm impressed enough with it to have it on my short list of things to pay for when the tax return comes in~

A couple of years ago, a Threads subscription was on my Christmas list. Since then, I've read enough single issues to know it's not something I'll probably ever want to subscribe to. The technique articles (draping, drafting, etc) are excellent, but I find their pattern reviews strangely lacking, and the featured projects are so bizarre I struggle to imagine an application for them in mundane sewing, let along costuming! Fortunately, their technique articles usually end up on their website eventually. I know a lot of people really love this magazine, but I just don't see it. YMMV!

I just canceled my Threads subscription. I agree with everything Gem said. It's nice to read every month - but I don't believe it to be worth the money for the information I need/get from it. However, if you want to subscribe for the technical aspects of it - I highly recommend investing in the CD/DVD's of Threads and others at the Taunton Press Store online. It's a permanent collection of what you need - and it's not just a continuous money drain for something that I might find useful. Instead, I would recommend subscribing to Your Wardrobe Unlock'd - it's specifically made for costumers and the articles are fantastic. One of the best features of the site is that I can download copies of the articles!

Thanks for your input everyone!  I don't really like subscribing to magazines usually because there's not always enough content (that appeals to me) to warrant the price of each issue, so I tend to just drop by the newsstand on my lunch break and flip through before deciding to buy it.  However I like getting "good" mail for a change, and sitting down to read a magazine that just came is a nice break for me and usually ignites my interest in whatever it is that the magazine is about.

For now though, I think I'll just buy issue-by-issue when there are articles that interest me. And Gem, you're right, there IS a lot of great info on the Threads website.  Soo Ja, thanks for your suggestion of the CD's and DVD's.  I didn't even know that exisited and you're right, it's a much better idea than the constant money drain.  And I'm going to look more into Your Wardrobe Unlock'd, I hadn't ever heard of it before now!

And as a side note....does anyone else think sewing magazines that have suggested projects and instructions in them is kinda funny?  I don't have TIME for any of those things!  I don't even have time for all the costuming-type projects I want to make!  Do you suppose there are actually people out there waiting for their sewing magazines to arrive so they have something to sew?  It just CAN'T be so.  And if it is...hey, no fair!

Well, I know a lot of mundane seamstresses who definitely make things from Burda's "World of Fashion" magazine, which is nothing but on-trend clothing patterns. There's a craft/sewing project in every issue of "Renaissance," too, but I will admit that I've never made any of them!
