Once Debauched

Hello Ladies!

It's been a while since I've posted in this form, but since losing 40 pounds (Huzzah!) and finding my most favoritest lambskin corset now to large to "keep things in place" (Boooooo!!!) I find myself in the market for something new and as my sewing machine is waiting to be repaired I'm going to splurge and buy something.

I had originally considered just buying a new corset from Moresca or Pendragon, but then thought of all the lovely over dresses I don't dare wear because I can't get shape I like so much.

So here's my line of thinking:

Spend $150, $200 or more on a new heavily boned "outter" corset or spend less than that on a strictly utilitarian heavily boned corset to be worn under my garb so I can then purchase pretty much any over garb at a cheaper price because I don't have to worry about boning AND can even get them in a smaller size (I lose more than 4 inches in a corset cause I'm soooo darn "fluffy"!)

I was considering this corset from Very Merry Seamstress, but will need to email her because it doesn't mention any boning.

Also considering this one from Sofi's Stitches, but will see if I can get it in white.

If you ladies have any suggestions on where I can find a good, sturdy, reasonably priced corset or have any input about the two listed above I'm all ears!

Thank you!  ;D

I love both of the Elizabethan Stays you pointed out and both are great.  You can wear them "out" with just a skirt and a chemise.  You may want to make/buy a basic Elizabethan Jacket to wear over them on colder days.

Have you considered making the stays yourself?  There is an awesome pattern generator online to help guide you through the process.

I had considered it and planned on it till my sewing machine died on me.  Since my local faire starts May 14th I seriously doubt there's time for me to get it repaired and get my projects done on time.

Chances are slim that if I get a corset in white or natural I'm going to be brave enough to wear it out.  I am not a tidy Rennie!

I've never ordered a corset from her, only dresses but VMS is great. She is especially helpful in customizing your garment so you end up with just the piece you want.

I read through the descriptions of the other corsets and it seems she has a variety of boning at her disposal.
Synthetic, spiral, spring steel, even reeds.
I say definitely contact her to see what she offers.

And congratulations on your weight loss- there's never a more exciting reason to buy new garb!

Both the corsets you show are elizabethan styles,  is that the shape you want?  I have one very similar to the VMS one pictured, for wear under my Tudor gown. It has a wide woodon busk in front and laces in back, and I would not wear it as outer wear since it's made from canvas and twill.  Also, remember that this style corset will flatten your assets, not lift them, which I can say from wearing Moresca and the VMS, is uncomfortable if you are generously endowed.

Have you considered the Sofi's Stiches Locklace bodice?  Lifts the ladies AND gives you nice control.   Laces in three places for max adjustability.

If you want to just go all out sexy, go for Damsel in this Dress.  Tight control for outrageous curves.  Most of her models are plus sized ladies and they look fantastic.  I have seen her corsets on size 2 to size 24+.    all great!

I'll second Damsel In This Dress.  Michelle, the owner/artist/seamstress is fantastic.  Her corsets are a great fit and comfy, to boot.  One of my favorite things about DitD corsets, though, is the fact that they can be taken in when you lose weight.  I've lost 4 inches myself this past year and I'm sending off three corsets to be taken in this week.

I just got my Damsel in this Dress corset, and I'm in LOVE with it.  She custom made it for me, it only costs a few more dollars than her stock, and she's super speedy.  She says three weeks, but I got mine in under two!  And I put it on, and *poof* no back pain!  Keep an eye on the number of bones she uses; I bought a nine bone because I wanted the extra support, but she'll go as few as five.

A note, too, her corsets are designed to be worn with bras, which is different, but not uncomfortable at all. :)

Looked at the Sofi's Stitches bodice and it doesn't have enough boning in it and I also checked out Damel in this Dress and tho I liked some of their stuff it wasn't what I was looking for and I definitely don't want to have to wear a bra with my corset.

As far as flattening me out,  you can only flatten so much!  lol  My old, now ill-fitting, corset was basically the same style and worked great.  If I can find someone in my area to rework it I'll have it altered, but haven't found anyone to rework a tabbed lambskin corset.

I have an Oddbodkin bodice and I just love it. I'm pretty large busted and it holds the girls up really well.

I highly recommend them.

I looked at Odd Bodkin when they had an eBay store, but never purchased.  I'll have to give them another look when I'm up for my next spending spree.  :-)~
