OMG Lady Stitch you just made my day!!  In-n-Out Burger is one of the biggest things I miss about So Cal.  I lived there for a few years and instantly became addicted lol!  Hope they make it to Houston too!

In-N-Out Burger Locations

So, there are 203 stores in California, and 7 here in Texas --- but all of the TX stores are in the DFW area...  :(

There are some "Five Guys Burgers & Fries" (from the East Coast) and even a "Culver's" (from Wisconsin) here in the Houston area.  :D

Yes, Five Guys is quite a bit like In-n-Out.  We were stationed in Northern Virginia for about 10 years (on and off).  When we moved to Kansas City for our twilight tour, we were so happy to see a Five Guys just a few miles from us!  Can't eat there too often (too greasy!) but it is very nice every once in a while!

2 of them are like 7 miles in either direction of my house.  Ive eaten there times when I've visited California and at the one off the strip in Vegas, wasnt that impressed. Never understood the hype.

I prefer 5 guys or Twisted Root if I am going to go get a quick burger.

If you live in Allen, Mckinney, Frisco or nearby, I suggest Square Burger in downtown McKinney. One of D magazines best burgers.

Have not even HEARD of this place....seems we are missing out. :-\

LOVED In-n-Out when I was living in SoCal (Double Double with grilled onions--mmmmm). Here in the Northeast, no one has even heard the name.
I came, I saw, I skipped to my lou.

My boss was looking through headlines one day last spring, and he commented on how In and Out had announced they were prosuing building restarants in the dallas area.  I have never seen my coworkers move that fast.  They literally pounced on him to know where, when, and everything.  He never realized how big a deal it was to people.  ;D
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

In and Out Burger has a "secret" menu.  They have their normal menu that is posted, but they have secret recipes in their computer that people who love the place have found.  This is a link to the most up to date "secret" menu options.

This has baffled me for over a decade now.  The obsession with this place by some people.

During my first trip to CA, for business in San Bernadino, I was asked (nearly immediately) by my clients if I had been to this place.  I said that I had never heard about it.  They took me for lunch just going on and on about it.   I was excited.  Who wouldn't be with all of the buildup?

Ever since then, for at least a couple of times a year since, I've heard nearly the same thing when I'm out there.   I try it again almost every trip and it's always the same thing.  I've always figured it's just something I'm missing or not getting.  Or maybe just a joke they're playing on the midwest guy.

I'm as easily impressed by pure goodness burgers (as opposed to the 'weird' burger stuff I was also introduced to out in CA ... veggie, tofu, wheatgrass and sprout, fruit, Cali-style pizza burger and so on) as the the next guy but this place just doesn't impress at all.  I've seen nothing on their menu (secret or not) that wasn't common for burger places for decades.  And, I'm not talking about the franchises ... those barely register as burgers at all.  Want some fantastic burgers almost anywhere?  Get off the main highways (aka past the chain franchises) and look around.  There are some places making GREAT burgers out there.  Mmmm there's a place near Savannah, GA that made a biscuit bbq burger (not a breakfast thing) that was fantastic!

With all of that said, I did get introduced to Krispy Kreme out in CA on my first trip.  It took around 5 more years for one to get within 200 miles of here.  Nice, but a bit 'too much' most of the time for their glazed for me.  Still, I was awake on the flight back to St Louis.

Also, the evening after that initial experience of In and Out Burger for lunch, I had the absolute best Thai food of my life.  Now, THAT was something to remember.

I'm not a fan of In-n-Out because of a lack of choices. I don't like hamburgers - I usually go for a nice grilled chicken sandwich if I'm going out for fast food, and I can't get that at In-n-Out. Plus, as much as the idea of fresh cut french fries is nice, McDonald's fries are much more tasty.

On the other hand, I looove Sonic. That and Pei Wei are the top foods I miss by moving back to the Bay Area. The nearest Sonic is about an hour away.

Lady Rebecca,

What do you think of the new Wendy's fries?   Personally, I think they're "ok" but I'd much rather have the old ones back.  It was a nice contrast between them and McD's.  Both are good in their own way.

Love Sonic, too.  The foot long chili cheese coney is a classic.  Unfortunately, they're now adding other hotdog varieties that aren't very good at all much less taste like the originals that these imitations are going after.  About every town over 500 people around here has a Sonic.  They're all over the place.

If you're talking about the sea salt ones, I actually hate them. I felt like I was eating seaweed or something, which is not what I want when I'm looking for fries. I'm pretty sure they were the worst fries I've ever had.

Last time I was out to L.A. everybody was going on about how I needed to try In and Out Burger.  I thought it was OK, but honestly I wouldn't drive past a Whataburger to get to one.

Rosco's Chicken & Waffles, now that's a whole other thing!  :P

I was living in McKinney when that Culver's was built, and ate there fairly regularly.  Actually, after a couple of years, I tended to drive-through and buy the Custard more often than the burgers.
