The film opened by me this weekend and after seeing twice, I'm in love with the Duke, the Prince, the Count and still can't decide which character is better dressed.

The fight scenes are amazing, the weapons are to die for (no pun intended) and I found the war scenes as realistic for film.  Even my lord was impressed with the fight scenes.  A good flick all around.

I'd recommend it. I'm a HUGE OnDemand fan myself. We went from that to DirecTV and just went back a few months ago. I love all the shows and movies they always have. It is cheaper than the theaters too (but not necessarily than DVD rentals I suppose).

I only learned about this movie from this thread too. I'm not huge on the indie scene but it looks like it opened at Cannes? Found this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montpensier - anyone catch who exactly this movie was based on?

I couldn't agree more Dona Catalina.  You must see what the Duke's doublet looks like, his on screen looked like black velvet but, it could have been a deep navy blue.  Sigh.....

I found out about this movie when the Chicago Film Fest was playing, there was a listing in the papers and this movie was highly recommended.  I do go to the 11:00 AM cheap show which is $5 because, we got rid of our Comcast when our daughter was born

Yikes!  That is a lot for a matinee, I am still stuck in 1980's movie prices if it's above $5 not worth seeing and I can wait.  Not many people want to see a movie at 11 AM so, I get the whole place to myself for about an hour and 1/2.  I rarely get out to the movies, this was the second time in four years I actually went to a movie theater.  It's Netflix for us.

I am with you on the Netflix!  But, a movie like this I could not watch on our tv unless, I had my lord take the little lady out for a couple hours.  But, this movie I had to see on the big screen because of the garb and the men.

In theory I agree, but watching a movie with friends at home means so many interruptions! Just going to the toilet, just HAVE to take this call, just have to text, just have to make some snacks, just going to the toilet again, just need a smoke, just have to... All the interruptions drives me nuts. In that aspect I prefer the big screen, as people are forced to focus. But I have a couple of friends I have a good "movie watching routine" with, and for THAT home movies rock!

The "Princess of M." looks interesting, will check it out. Thanks for the heads up on that one!
