Ok, so last year was my first time to TRF and I had a BLAST!  I did dress up 1 day (see profile pic) but it was kind of generic.  This year I was thinking about having two outfits.  One a gypsy, kind of simple but fun and a steampunk outfit!

I know that to some steampunk is controversy but I really like it!  Does anyone have any ideas for a plus size girl that shows off my..ummm...assests to their best potential????  lol

There is a whole Steampunk thread in the Mundane topics forum.  There's lots of info there, and the garbing forums will have some stuff, also.  If you sew, then you should also check out the sewing forums.  Lots more info in those than in the individual Faire forums.

  One last recommendation:
Damsel-in-this-Dress.  Save your pennies for one of these beauties.  These corsets will make you look amazing! She designs for curvy women.

Sorry I couldn't include that link earlier, but I was sitting in the Dr's office, on my phone, and couldn't copy and paste anything... but, yes... please do come and joins all of us in there!

And Rowen is right... Damsel in the Dress is pretty incredible!  Some gorgeous designs that fit right into the whole Steampunk genre.  But read as much of the SP thread as you can, first, before you start buying anything, because there is an incredible wealth of info in there!!!  Lots of how-to links for DIY projects, as well...

I can also personally recommend Damsel.  I have two pirate coats from Michelle and she is awesome!  She vends at faires, but I think OKRF is about as far south as she goes right now.  If she could set up at TRF, Scarby or Sherwood, I think she would do very, very well.

Great!  I have really been looking at her stuff and think that is who I will go with for my corset and bustle skirt!

THank you

If you don't have any sewing experience and are unsure on how to measure yourself, find someone who does sew to measure you.  The first coat I bought at OKRF and Michelle was able to find the coat that fit perfectly.  The second one I ordered online and it came back about a size and a half larger than I really am lol.  ::)  I am not sure what I did lol.  Michelle was great about taking the coat in, etc., but if you are ordering and looking for a specific delivery date, get good measurements and order early.  There can sometimes be a bit of a wait if she has a lot of orders in queue.

Yeah, I asked her if I order it at the end of August would she be able to get it done.  I was thinking the same thing on the measurements though.  I cant sew a button on so I am sure I would measure all wrong so I was going to have a professional do it

You mentioned Scarlett's corsets in the other thread (should really ask the Mods to merge this thread with the Steampunk one, just to save confusion, maybe... since Steampunk isn't a specifically TRF subject, anyway), and you certainly can't go wrong with her designs, either.  She does incredibly beautiful work, and you could buy from her at Faire, as well.  You did mention that you might be buying two corsets this year, and I would definitely recommend her for the other one.

The thing is, with the Scarlett corset you won't have everyone automatically realizing who the designer is, so you can customize your SP look however YOU want it to look, and it will be your own touches that make the outfit... but when you wear a DiTD piece, everyone immediately knows where it came from, and that's always where the focus stays.  She does amazing work, and all of her pieces have that very recognizable flair that is hers, alone, so it's difficult to pull the focus away from that with the rest of your accessories.

You'll likely want to be able to do more than one look, anyway, so having two, or more, corsets can't possibly hurt, right?  ;)

Of course, I can't really see the details very well, but it looks like the corset you're wearing in your avatar would work for SP, as well.  Any corset can work, depending on what you pair it with... and there are a TON of links to photo streams from CON costume contests and fashion shows to be followed in the SP thread to get ideas from!
