The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation is sponsoring a pirate event in Wilmington, DE on July 9, 2011, 11am -5pm. The Kalmar Nyckel is a replica of a Dutch pinace that brought the Swedes to the New World in 1638. Besides all kinds of piratey happenings you will be able to board the Kalmar Nyckel. Had a good time. I wore my tattoo shirt and was stopped numerous times by people who wanted to see my "tats". The line to get on the Kalmar Nyckel was way too long and out in the sun on the promenade next to the river so I didn't get to board the ship. The event was mainly a kids event with thousands of ankle biters in attendance. They did have a number of good music groups singing chanteys but the sound engineer sucked worse than the sound system. Quite a few pirates were there in garb with cutlass and cannon. I left at 2:30 PM as the temperature was in the 90's. ;D ;D ;D
