Leather Mug coating?
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:07:34 AM »
I picked up a leather mug for my kiddo and I have seen and heard of people that have coated thier mugs in some sort of resin to avoid the possible melting of the wax and the normal wear.

So the question is does anyone know of a food safe way to perminatly coat the mug in something other than wax?

I don't know of anything to put over the wax itself, but Envirotex is food safe enough (certainly for cold or room temp beverages) to replace the wax.

It's an epoxy resin. You can actually find it at Michaels or AC Moore. Probably at Hobby Lobby or other similar Craft stores.

My son actually uses a 50/50 blend of beeswax and brewers pitch.  I don't think that's what you mean, but thought I'd put it out for you as an option.
