Sorry you all! I just found out about this myself this past week but with Costume College ongoing ~ I had the chance to meet Jennifer Thompson! What a lovely girl and she has the cutest accent! (All Texan and all)  Bess Chilver was there and Robin Netherton as well we all had a complete BLAST!!!


But this is Drea Leed and she is coming out with a new book!

The Costume Talk is doing this in Eugene OR and I can't get up there! Not enough time for me to since I just went to CoCo I can't take the time off so soon! 

Here is a blurb!

This intensive, two-day workshop is an in-depth introduction to the techniques of tailoring and clothing construction used in the Renaissance era. Each day will involve an examination and discussion of photographs of actual extant garments, focusing on details of seaming, layering, shaping and construction. This will be followed by a hands-on session where participants learn and practice recreating those techniques.

The scheduled hours for this workshop are 9:00 am to approximately 5:00 pm both days (subject to our progress each day).

The workshop will cover:

Period seaming stitches and techniques
period edging/binding stitches and techniques
Pinking/slashing techniques
Period shaping and padding techniques
Using period fastenings: lacing holes, hooks and eyes, rings, buttons and buttonholes
the layers of a period garment: outer fabric, construction layer, lining layer(s), and how they were pieced together and assembled
use of the thimble, beeswax, and other sewing aids
In addition to these practical skills, we will also discuss tailoring in general: how a tailor lived and worked; the anatomy of a tailor's shop; the tailor's relationship with their guild, other cloth trades and the community; apprenticeship; and other, less tangible aspects of the tailoring trade.

Although no sewing experience is required, attendees will get more out of the workshop if they already have a basic familiarity with hand-sewing: (how to thread and knot a needle, etc.), and a familiarity of basic stitches (running stitch, backstitch, hem-stitch and whipstitch.)

All materials and a color handout will be provided; please bring your own needles and scissors.

No Worries! I wish I myself had found out about it earlier! Drea is a really grand teacher, I was at her last chat a couple of years ago and it was a blast! I learned quite a bit then!

I Wish you all could have been here for Costume College!!!! I took a class from Robin Netherton on the influence that Victorian thought and theory had on what we all could think of as Secondary Sources!! Blew my mind!  In fact? A pattern maker has a drawing that is completely incorrect and is supposed to be a true historical pattern!  Yet the drawing done for the pattern is a Victorian hot mess!! It is pretty funny how prevalent those inaccuracies are!!!

One day I will remember to keep an eye out for CC and get to go.  I always think about it when it is to late!
