Years ago on the IWG board, I saw a pattern for a simple gored-like skirt cut from a single rectangle of fabric. As i remember, the pieces were cut in alternating triangles |\/\/\/|  so that there was no waste of fabric at all.  The 'tops' of the triangles are open about 6-8". I'm not sure how wide the bottom edges should be in relation to the tops.  Do I use 4 or 5 panels?
I do know that once cut, the 'upside down' triangles are shifted so that all of the short edges are pointing up, then the vertical seams are sewn together and the skirt is ready for an elastic waist and a hem.
Do I have this right? Will it look ok?   I have to produce 3-4 of these for some first time faire goers (yet a new batch of nieces age 10 to 13).  I was able to get quite a few yards of light weight cotton in forest green, navy and burgundy on sale at Hancocks.
I also have a serviceable pattern for a basic gathered chemise which I will sew from my tons of white and off white bubble cotton.
I have a Simplicity  pattern for a muffin hat, but don't know how hard that will be to make.
I have 3 weeks to get this done.

Thanks!

I think you've got the right idea.

Go here:
http://www.theweebsite.com/sewing/index.html

In the right pane, find Cloaks.  Beneath that, look for Gores.  Click on Gores.

It gives instructions on a gored cloak (from which I've made two BEAUTIFUL cloaks!) but the section ends with instructions for a gored skirt.  Read it for some good scoop.

I think this is what you are looking for. It's the l \/ /\ \/ /\ l layout on fabric. The link is off the wench's guild forums.  Hope this helps.
