sewing for dogs

we're going to a pirate fest this weekend, and there is a pet costume contest. I have a little yorkie that I think I could whip up a tiny pirate dress for with no problem, but I also have a papillon/poodle cross, about 18 lbs, that I want to dress.

I have a basic dress pattern...I was thinking of maybe dressing her as a gypsy....anyone tried anything like that before? or any ideas/suggestions?

Check out Canine Creations.  They made a cavalier hat for my DH's puppet Quizzik.  Everything is hand made and really well done.
