I know kilts are traditionally a men's garment, with the arsaidh (sp?) being the closest female counterpart. But really, how common is it for women to wear them to a faire?

I have seen a few, but it's faire, and people wear alsorts of things. And it's not my place to say what one sould or shouldn't wear.

Alas, I have seen a few as well, but not many. I typically see them more at games and competitions.

I see them once in a while at MNRF especially on Highland Fling weekend, but otherwise its just female members of the pipe band that performs there.

I know one Azriel who shoots in the archery touranment who wears a kilt most of the time.  I've also seen a few others around.  Mostly they are not grabbed just wearing a kilt.

I assume you meant "not garbed" as opposed to "not grabbed"  ;D

My wife occasionally wears an Irish National kilt... just for the fun of it.

I wear an arisaidh at faire.

I've never seen a woman wearing any type of kilt but I have seen women who've made gowns out of tartan material.

Malcolm

I caught this lovely lass at MIRF's Highland Fling weekend back in '06.

I didn't hear any complaints.

I too wear my airsaid to faire. However I do own a lady's kilted skirt, which I have worn to faire in the past.
I also wear it regularly as it "passes" for mundane-ware.

I can't even find a Fife District sash let alone a kilt!

I see quite a few womwen wearing kilts at Milwaukee's Irishfest every year.  In my humble opinon more women need to wear kilts.

I was looking through the links of kilt resources and I'm thinking about getting a kilt. Does sizing work the same for women, since kilts are made with men's measurements in mind? Are there kilts specifically made for women?

I caught this lovely lass at TRF last year. I apologize for the side view.

Not to be picky, but is that a "kilt" or a plaid mini skirt?

That appears to be a plaid mini skirt, rather than a woman's kilt.

PurpleDragon

that is a plaid mini skirt and not a proper kilt.  The first picture posted from MIRF was a kilt.

Picky, picky!! ::)

Yeah, I know, but she was at the Highland Fling, after all! I saw another lass a way from me that day in a proper kilt, but I was headed in the other direction. I couldn't just beg the girlfriend to go chase down another girl for a picture! I was in enough deep water with the pics I'd already gotten! :o

Aye there is a difference between a plaid mini-skirt and a kilt.

But never no mind.  There is no harm in showing celtic pride in one's own way.

Let's just please make sure we keep this Celtic Corner breaming with honour and gaelic pride of us all.

I've seen a few here and there... Just last weekend I saw a husband and wife wearing kilts together and completely matching... It was kind of sweet...
