So I was reading in other threads, that well, there seems to be some trepidation to creating things without using a pattern.  While it does take time and effort it is really easier than we think!  I know when I began I really thought I needed something to start from so I am going to give you all some links that perhaps would help you get the courage to attempt to make patterns for yourself!

Yes, I am taking you to Youtube!  Go through the tutorial I promise it is easy!

Here is one for a basic bodice:

Threads Magazine has some awesome information:

Renaissance Tailor has some good tutorials as well:

Semptress has a wonderful how to on Kirtle Making:

Now the best thing about this is you go and purchase a roll of muslin from Joann's at the 50% off sale and you can learn how to cut away until you get the look you want for pennies!

Our very own Jenn (Centuries Sewing) has a wonderful tutorial on bodice draping:

(You may recognize a certain Very Familiar Project! And, yes, I *will* be getting to that right after Fair season!)

Gem, I need to post the write up for draping the back on that still. Opps!  ::)

But thinking along the line of drafting in draping, (Not to hijack your thread Cilean!) how much interest is there in specific techniques that folks here might want to learn?

Sleeves? Facings? Walking patterns?

I have a bolt of fabric and access to a video camera.  ;)

What in the world is "walking patterns?!" Sounds exciting! LOL

The #1 thing that baffles me is grading patterns. That's what I want somebody to sit me down with a copy of POF, and show me how to do. How do you take a historical pattern, drafted from an extant garment, and alter it to fit yourself (or someone else)?

Auryn

Ditto what gem said.
I gotta admit when I read 'walking pattern', my mind's eye saw a paper pattern getting up and walking away and me having to chase it around the room
