To get the bodice or not.

*pulls out her soapbox* If a bodice or corset is tight enough to cause an inability to breath properly then it is the wrong size or style for your body shape.  We must remember that corsets or bodies were not intended to attain a smaller size but to create the proper silhouette for the fashions of the day.

It has only been in the last 100 or so years with the rise of machine made ready to wear clothing that society has become fixated on a particular number.  Even Scarlett O'Hara's infamous 16 inch waist had more to do with the flapper era's ideal waist size than what was appreciated in the Civil War era.

So if you find that a bodice is preventing you from drawing a full breath do not listen to the clerk that tells you, Oh that's how it's supposed to fit.  Either insist on a larger size or leave that shop and find another that will correctly fit you. *finishes dancing on the soapbox and puts it away*

*cough* it was 18in for Scarlet  ::) Sorry that is one of my favorite books and movies lol
