baby Fairy outfit

The PP and I are going to try to go to Scarby memorial day weekend as a little family vacation.  If the weather stays warm as I think it will I wanted to make the fuzzlet a little warm weather outfit.  I'm looking for ideas.
I'm thinking of just making it out of stash fabrics since I have so much. I've got various colors of 100% cotton hanging about. I was going to make her a simple sleeveless dress with poofy skirt that will come to her knees.  Then a cotton diaper cover. 

What kind of decorations would you recomend?  Right now I'm thinking just using the decorative stitiches on my machine to make little patterns, maybe an applique.  She has gotten into a habit of putting her skirt hems in her mouth when she gets bored. (actually putting ANYTHING in her mouth to be honest) 
Suggestions are welcomed.

Put ruffles on the back of the diaper cover - like a bustle.  It looks adorable when she is going to throw her skirts up and helps fluff out the skirts.   

Maybe patch work?  Adding a couple of different colored patches with a couple of decorative stitches around them could be very cute or even pockets out of patches.

...Following up on Isabella's great idea, how about patches shaped like leaves or twigs or flowers? And on the back, maybe a large applique shaped like folded wings?

I did an image search for "baby fairy costume" and found this adorable little outfit with green knickers and skirt panels shaped like petals:



I think you could manage a similar look even without all the fussy wired panels and layers of tulle. The gold ballet slippers are a cute touch, too!

I love the concept Gem. Thanks    I'm sure I can come up with SOMETHING out of my stash like that.  She already has some pink ren mocasins that are down right adorable. They are size 2's so she may be able to wear them for a while.

Memorial Day weekend?!? You think it will be warm?!? 

Girl-child! It's Texas. It's end-of-May. It's bloody-friggin' hot!!! If I were you, I'd bring an ice chest to nestle the fuzzlet down into to keep cool...and me too, because I'm going to be there...

The PP and fuzzlet were nice and toasty warm at opening weekend at Sherwood, while mummy froze her ... well never mind that.    The PP has a linen and cotton outfit he will be wearing and I have my deer leather bodice to wear.  I know it will be hot but are we talking 90 or 120? The way the weather has been I'm thinking it will be pushing 100.  Thinking of ways to keep the whole family cool.

When I made my neice her fairy costume I made a tutu out of really stiff tulle and put petals of a funky fun fabric around the waist band. Then I added some flowers and ribbions with bells around the skirt. My sister put her in a onsie and some little shoes, with her Fairy Winks wings and a head band with flowers too. My neice still plauys with it.

I was thinking patchwork petals, too.  You DEFINATELY want a cute sunhat to coordinate.  For my girls I hotglued (don't judge too harshly, I was short on time!) silk flowers all over a sunhat and put large leaves in the front for added shade.  But our theme was flowers- baby was Blossom, after all!  Pretty sure you can come up with a cute patchwork hat and gown from stash!  Don't forget the wings!  =)

Thanks for the picture help, Gem. Now I saw that as a little rosebud, but a berry fairy would be a really cute idea! Maybe make the sort of one piece romper that is puffy.

I like the idea of the little patchwork fairy.  Fuzzlet will be dressed up at the little sewing fairy who manages to steal all your missing pattern pieces.

This was my daughter's first pixie ensemble. I think I'd do a little more detail on the leaves if I did it again. But it was quick and easy. I got some mini led lights, designed to put in balloons, and stitched them in folds and under leaves, so she actually glowed/sparkled as she moved.

When Myryha was little we went out to Hawkwood.  I made her a little tunic of great sparkly material.  It was cut-work, so it breathed.  I put her in a little tank top and capris under it, with tiny sandals.  Wings were sheer turquoise chiffon over the canvas needlepoint material, with straps for her arms.  A tiny flower headband - presto, baby fairy.  End of day, take of headband, wings and tunic.
