Very, very cool, Dona!

Someone emailed me not long ago, with photos as examples,  inquiring on a full Henry VIII garb ensemble. When I quoted that such an ensemble would be over $2,000, they shrieked at the price! I guess the person was not aware of how much clothing that enatiled and the time needed to make it all.

You are welcome to use me as a reference any time that you wish, Lady Kathleen.  I have to admit that when you first quoted me for my ensemble, I swallowed hard. But, I also realized how much I had spent on various bits-and-pieces at faire, I realized that it was actually quite a bargain!

As with any Tudor ensemble such as one Henry VIII wore or even the Royal Court at Scarby, their garb is not cheap! With recreating an esenmble like that, materials alone would cost over $850. Then count in labor time of 150 hours or more! $2,000 seems like a bargain!

Henry VIII was a BIG man! The older and fatter he got, the more his clothes cost. Henry wore precious gems on his clothes. Jeweled Ouches(Buttons), were commonplace on his clothing and that of his wives.

I quoted someone $1500 for a Tudor / Henry VIII suit 15 years ago. $2000 is a bargain today sonsidering how many pieces of which the entire ensemble consists.

$2,000 for a Henry VIII ensemble is a starting point, Dona!!! The more embellishments asked for, the higher the price.

The Pelican Portrait gown I replicated for a friend of mine was $3,500. Every penny for materials and labor is visible.

They need to do some shopping.  EVEN going to a wholesaler, the yard goods alone for such an ensemble could run up to a thousand dollars.  Then add in beads, pearls, gems...

Truly they have no idea.  Today's top fashion runway looks - and their prices - are akin to what recreating historical dress involves.
