I gave my dad a recorder one year, and he taped some of his memories of the war—it's beginning, his capture, the Bataan Death March, the hell ships, and forced labour in Japan. He somehow found some humour in parts of it, and for the life of me, I don't know how, but I think it's what kept him alive.

He died 5 years ago, June 7. I love you Pop. I miss you.
