Anyone know anything about this one?

I know Ramada Inn isn't considered one of the best...but if it's clean... I may opt for this one.... it's only $50 and not too far from fair.

My dad stayed there a couple of years ago when he came up for ren faire. It's decent, not spectacular, but you won't be sharing a bed with a roach the size of a chihuahua named Ricky. It has one major downside in that it is RIGHT on the dividing line between the higher-end parts of Conroe and the ghetto/hicksville half (seriously, rednecks are tea-sipping connesoirs of art and culture compared to the people out in Cut-n-Shoot... and yes, that's the town's actual name), so you'll get traffic driving by alternating between blasting (c)rap and revving an engine in a jacked-up truck that belongs in a Russian warship rather than a truck. The up-sides outweigh this, though- you can hope right out on to 336 west and connect to 105, which takes you straight to Plantersville, there's a Kroger, liquor store, Subway and several other useful places in a shopping center right across the freeway, and on the way to faire, and it is damned easy to find.

If you can get a room there, I've heard both horror and good stories about being there. The one standing comment from pretty much everyone I know who has stayed there is that they jack their rates up during faire season and will do so even more if they find out your a rennie. They usually book up early though (with the exception of last year I hear they book 8-10 months in advance for the big 3.

When we were still hotelling it, we had better luck with Tomball. Everything we stayed at in Montgomery or Conroe had issues or jacked their rates up for rennies.

The Hampton and the La Quinta in Tomball both worked out well for us many times. They are pretty much side by side on Hooper road.

Yup...you were right. The girl first said.."Oh that's a fair weekend...only my manager can give those rates...then a person with the thickest foreign accent I have ever heard came on and said "Yes... for you... only $125 a night".

I laughed and said "No..I only want ONE room"

She said "Yes yes... for you only...$125 a night these dates.... you have credit card?"

Next?

You may want to at least look into borrowing or renting a camper or motor home. There are places that do that (They even deliver it and set it up for the weekend ) and that of course would place you as close as possible. And if the SMALL amount of issues some have had with noise, techno etc are not your cup of tea, there is another campground like half a mile from the entrance also.

We stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in north Conroe. No it is not THE closest. But any closer, the prices start to jack up most definitely.

Ok so Merlin...if you camp,  you'd better rent a camper for 4...I'll go 50/50 with you! :)

Otherwise, awaiting anxiously to see where we are staying! LOL

Merlin

Lady Kett... we wont be camping for this first trip....  It seems most of the hotels are priced about the same...other than the Ramada and that kind of concerns me. We don't need a 5 star... certainly wont be in the room very much at all...but I do want clean.

Now it's just deciding how much you want to save vs. how far you want to drive.

Will do more research tomorrow.

Hehe, been there done that. That's why I'm watching you do it! :)

Definitely look into DonaCatalina's recommendations and others in Tomball.
Don't forget to smell the roses, but watch out for the thorns!

I used to stay in Navasota at the Super 8. It is nearby and not too expensive. I did not have good luck at the Magnolia place. But it was years ago. Now I camp out with Cat.

Merlin,

While I know the price goes up it is closest.  Now what you need to remember is that traffic when leaving faire is insane and it could take you hours to get to your room!  So be sure to park by the camping area so you can hang out with us and everyone else for a while as the mass exodus is underway.  Bring a cooler and some chairs, come see us at row 8. :)

I'm not exaggerating about the traffic.  Everyone here who goes to TRF can tell ya how crazy it is.  Thousands of people all wanting to get on a 2 lane road at the same time and then there are the auto accidents that can delay things even more....  :o

Yeah, Bonnie ain't lying.  In fact, if you don't want to hang out and wait out traffic, plan to drive north.  The majority of the traffic heads south toward Houston.  Its a bit lighter heading north toward Conroe.  But you'll want to skeedaddle before the mass exodus or it won't matter which direction you go, you'll be stuck on the property for an hour just just waiting to get to the highway (o:

I second that about the traffic.
For vendors, we don't even get to TRY to leave the backstage area until most of the traffic is cleared.
That's usually near 9-9.30.

Merlin

Even at Scarborough we usually leave about 30 minutes before it closes....except the last weekend...
