For the narrow silk ribbon, I used silk ribbon embroidery ribbon...

Do you guys think narrow organza ribbon will work? (Seems like it might be scratchy.) It's literally the only thing I can find in the right size and color. Mystifyingly, every major craft store in the metro has eliminated its silk ribbon embroidery section! (It's all needle-felting now.)

Hmmm. I may be left with making something, after all.

Of course it will *work*.  Any sort of ribbon or bias will *work*.  The main difference between material used is the annoyance factor.  Do you want it to stay tied - used something like the grosgrain that won't slip out.  Want a better look and maybe have to retie your stuff a bit more - go for the satin ribbons.

The organza will look pretty and depending on how you attatch it to your smock, it may not touch your skin at all.

A quick bump to see if there's a rule of thumb for the *length* of the ties (collar & cuffs). Typically I would just cut a really long length and then cut off the excess afterward... but my ribbon is really pretty and I don't want to waste any.  (For some reason, my pattern doesn't say how long to make the ties!)

Do you have any string or regular ribbon you could cut and use as a tie?  Then, when you find the right length on the string, you can cut it and use it as a guide for cutting your nice ribbon.
