What is the general atmosphere at the festival these days? It has been more than 10 years since I last attended, and I remember we stopped going because it seemed like the atmosphere was tending toward becoming overly "family-friendly" rather than the slightly bawdy atmosphere that made the faire really interesting and enjoyable. Not having any kids, we weren't/aren't looking for a sweet and innocent experience  ;).

Just my observation, but I do believe the Faire has become more family friendly.  We have children in our group so I am more aware of the family friendly entertainment.

There are still some bawdy acts, of course.  Check out the texrenfest.com main website under entertainers to see the kinds of acts there now.  That should give you an idea of the kinds of attendees who would be drawn to those acts.  There are schedules and maps at the website so you can plan your visit ahead of time.

If you're interested in the campgrounds changes, there are several topics in this forum that discuss what's going on there.

While it may be somewhat kid friendly it is not Disneyland by any means.  Look for what you like and you will find it.  Still plenty of chainmail about.

There is still bawdy fun at TRF.  As mentioned, the chainmaille show has been going on for decades.  You might also check out Christophe the Insultor at The Agora.  Since your last visit, a Polish Pub has been erected and both acts there (Iris & Rose and Arthur Greenleaf Holmes) are delighfully naughty.  At The Odeon, Sound and Fury puts on a salacious show.  If you visit the Sea Devil Pub for more than a few minutes, you will probably see or hear something that is offensive to those with civilized dispositions.   ;)

Just for grins, you might want to go back and watch people try to dunk vixens at the Drench a Wench booth in Sherwood Forest.  When I wandered by, the wet wench said something about my genitals (that cannot be repeated here) and I wasn't even throwing bean bags at her!
