This is nowhere near Renn or Historically accurate, but I figured I would ask in hopes that the massive wealth of knowledge on this forum might be able to help.

When I was in San Francisco in september I found the perfect fabric for one of my cosplay projects at Discount Fabrics. Of course it was the perfect fabric in the wrong color.
They had silver, green, red, and blue but no gold- and gold is what I need.

The girl called it Mylar fabric- but it has no weave or thread of any kind
it is highly highly reflective with a smooth finish. It does not kink or crease easily and can take a good amount of abuse before it will mark.

I called Discount fabric and the owner had no idea what I was talking about.
He actually asked me to mail him the sample that they gave me, so he could look for it.
I am going to mail him only a small piece.

Here are some pictures of the sample- its all beat to kingdom come, it came with me in my purse from cali and then I did some adhesive tests with it.

If it is mylar it isn't fabric.  It's plastic.  I have a huge roll that is translucent and use it for tracing over maps at work.
You might want to try local art supply stores to see if they have the same thing.  Then you can look online for a roll of it.
Good luck!

Thanks Dinobabe
I know it isn't technically fabric.
I have looked into the gold foil for screen printing, but that stuff is too thin and fragile.

I guess I will have to send the guy my sample back.

So I was curious and googled "mylar fabric".  Apparently it is used to make glider wings!  I typed "gold mylar fabric" and instantly came up with links.
