I'm thinking of attending Sherwood during next year's season and, I want to start planning early in regards of what to wear. I'll probably attend during March, so what would be the appropriate amount of clothes to wear? Also, what shoes would be good to wear in regards to terrain/weather?

Oh yeah, I'll be dressed as my selkie persona. Would sea-themed characters be welcome in in a woody area like Lost Pines (I remember reading about pirates at last year's faire.)?

Half of Sherwood is fae or magical, so no worries there :) There are lakes and ponds around the area, so why can't you be a seal fae who just got a little lost trying to get to the sea? the pirates.. I think I remember seeing, and they did look a little out of place. But, to each their own, and as long as you fit in somewhat with the faire it works. There were a lot of Middle Eastern/Ottomanish garb due to the early time period, which I loved to see.

Last year, opening, was COLD. I had to buy pants halfway through the first day because I stopped feeling my legs. But according to others at other opening weekends it can be mild to hot. So I think its best if you just bring a little for each type of weather, watch the weather forecast as much as you can, and just come prepared.

I hope you see you out there this coming faire season!

Good idea to watch the weather forecast.  March can be tricky in Central Texas.  Might be 50-60 in the morning, then 90 at noon.  I would advise garb that would qualify as layering, so if it's nippy in the morning, you could use a cape or cloak, then drop it in the car by noon.

This past year we had several rainy, cool (cold) weekends, followed by beautiful weekends in March.  February was great for leathers and wool garb, March for the fairies and nymphs.

As for terrain - some places are very sandy, some more packed down or held by tree roots.  Parts of parking lot and road are rocky - not just gravel, rocks.  People wear everything from barefoot and sandals to heavy pirate boots.  I've found flat bottomed boots (Payless, about $30) work well for me.

Part of the forest is rather flat, but there is an area that is uphill, for real.

As for Selkie - go for it; but beware of all the pirates.  Oh, yeah, depending on rainfall, there is a natural stream that runs through the forest that you might enjoy, though you would have to share it with ducks.

Trees.  Lots of trees.  Tall, green trees.  Except the joust area.

Scarletnyx and I seem to have a contest going as to who can type and get a post in quickest. :D

Just curious, Selkie, what type garb would a selkie wear on land?

True, Selkie...weather varies from hell-to-breakfast. But Sherwood Forest seems to me to have the most mythological characters of any of the few faires I've attended. As a wizard, I felt more at home.

Sherwood is a beautiful faire with lovely people. You will enjoy it there.

Polly,  I was either thinking of a seaweed/seaweed/fishnet top with a long skirt that has a similar look. The other idea was more like a female sailor, not necessarily a pirate, but something along those lines. However, I'm leaning toward the first option.

Ah, sounds interesting.  Could carry that theme into adornments of pearls and shells, with a net type head dress or cowl.

I'll keep an eye out for you at Sherwood.

Well, I kind of view my selkie persona as a bit on the wilder side, not completely tame. She's probably more the type to tie/braid/weave shells and other baubles into her hair.

I absolutely love it when people weave little trinkets into their hair! Especially with any form from the sea.. I have been to the beach long enough that I know that even a slight tumble in the waves gets all sorts of treasures wrapped up in your locks. I can only imagine what a seal woman's hair would look like!

I cannot wait to see you among the trees at Sherwood this next season :)

On the really cold days I just look at them in silent admiration, but on the hot days I bet that cold dark earth feels great beneath your feet.
