MA paned sleeves...

I have them cut out, and the lining and fashion fabric pinned together.
I've never made them, or even worn them before, so before I start sewing I figured I should ask for pointers.

I am using a gold silk Duponi-like material on the outside (leftover from the the forepart) and cotton muslin lining in a color close to the sleeve.
I hope to get away with no interlining between the inner and outer sleeve, in the interest of coolness. Will that work ok?  The material  is lightweight.
I haven't decided on embellishments yet, and from what MA recommends; they should be sewn on the outside of the sections before sleeves are put together.   I would like to use the same black velveteen material on the sleeves somewhere to match the guard on the forepart, but with all those bar tacks between the panes that I would like to embellish with pearls or something, would that be too much?

I didn't underline mine, but they were reversible and used two medium-weight home dec fabrics, so they had a little more body than muslin would. Also, the relatively small nature of the panes, along with the added embellishment, will add body to the panes.

What about using the velveteen as piping? It makes a nice detail on the panes, and will help with the stability.

My biggest issue with my sleeves is that they are HUGE! So before you get too far down the road, I'd baste everything together and actually wear them so you can get a sense of the size of things. Mine are both too big around and too long--and I actually made a muslin for them first! It was just too hard to tell how they should fit from just the muslin. A basted-together real version would tell you more, I think.

Thanks, I had heard that the sleeves were oversize, so I made them the next size smaller (which is only about a 1/2 inch if that.  They still look huge.
I may end up having to shorten them, because I was going to trim the cuffs with satin rope piping.  I could pipe the slits in velvet. I'll pin it together and see what it looks like.

I was looking at an old thread, (from when I was making the original outfit that these will go with) and one of the ladies showed her doublet along with the MA paned sleeves.(I can't find the picture again, and I just looked at a couple hours ago!)
As she was wearing them, they looked a bit 'bunched up' like they were too long.  The ones I have seen on nobles at faire lay flat, like semi-fitted sleeves, but when you look at the pattern it's ramrod straight. No curve at all to give ease to the elbow, which may be why they are so wide.
Perhaps Margo likes them loose, since she doesn't have lengthen/shorten lines on the patterns.
As for the circumference....I'm not sure if they are supposed to be worn over a very full sleeved chemise,  or just made to accommodate larger arms.

I found this site: Excellent pictures and a diary to go with it!

She used almost the same types of materials, and the same pattern form MA.   I definitely like the idea of the stripe of velvet down the middle., I think I will go with that.
It seems that the lightweight silk/linen combo is holding it's shape well. Once I add the trim I should have the body I need.   I was also happy to see a picture of someone wearing these with shoulder rolls; which I will also be making of black velveteen and gold trim.
