I have one of the museum replica ones-It was ok, not as nice, but serviceable.   Medieval replicas unfortunately, buys a LOT of Asian imported stuff.
I would spring for the extra 10-20 bucks. and get the SS one; excellent construction,  easy to break down and put back together when it needs washing and won't fall apart.

SS is in made in USA by the owner and her worker elves.

A very deluxe version from Moresca.

Actually, you may be able to luck out and find a full crinoline at the thrift store to wear over your hoop skirt.  Hides the rings and is reasonably cool.  Look in the wedding gowns...

If you can sew 7 straight seams, and measure, I can talk you thru making one out of a bed sheet, total cost about $30, everything available locally...

Well, I can't guarantee that my seams will be super straight ("straight enough" fits better in my vocabulary) and I am in need of a new farthingale so please, talk us through making one!   :D

When I make Farthingales, I use Heavy 100% Cotton Drapery Lining and Bias Tape for the Boning Channels. No pattern because I draw it out on the fabric.

It's the Hoop wire that is expensive. Which reminds me, I have to order some.

Dos Sophi's still use the Tube? I saw one of her Farthingales back in 2004 at a Trade Show and was not overly impressed with the Tubing she used.

A lot of the Tudor Shoppe's merchandise actually comes from Sofi's, including their farthingale. They also carry a lot of the same products as Museum Replicas. (Pearson's Renaissance and By The Sword are two other vendors with the same items.)

We have Sofi's at KCRF, and we have several pieces from them. Milord especially likes their men's garb, and it's still going strong after almost ten seasons. It's nice off-the-rack garb for the price.

A Farthingale I did for Lady DeLaney several years ago. They take about 3 yards of a 54" wide ofa  Heavy Cotton Drapery lining. Depending on  one's height, 3 to 4 rows of casing for Hoop Steel should suffice.

By contrast,  I've never had a bad experience with SS.  I have only bought chemises and skirts (5+thus far) but they have all been way better made than any of the imported crap.
For gowns I stick with Likely Lotus, and I buy from their shoppe at the DMRF.
