Baroness Doune

This is late notice, but I have just had a cancellation for the bodice workshop which is being held this coming Saturday, July 12, 2008.  Anybody in the Twin Cities Metro interested?
*****
THE FOURTH BODICE WORKSHOP

What: An opportunity to learn my method for fitting and making a bodice that is reasonably historically accurate for the later half of the 16th century.
Who: Interested ladies who live in or around or can get to the Twin Cities Metro Area. Notice we will be working on BODICES. No men (Except for DH, since he lives here, but he will probably not be around.) or children are allowed. This is also a dry event because some serious work is being done here. Due to lack of space and to provide more personal attention, workshop size will be limited to 4 people, not including myself.
When: July 12, 2008 from 9:00am to 6ish.
Where: At my home.

What to bring:
Some kind of food item. I am thinking of a salad bar - pasta salads, fruit salads, etc. I will be providing salad greens and things like cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, croutons, and a selection of salad dressings.
Materials needed for the workshop:
1. A brown paper bag cut open and ironed flat with two intersecting perpendicular lines drawn on it about two inches from the top edge and two inches from the right edge.
2. Pencils and rulers to draw on the above brown paper bag.
3. The bodice pattern of choice. It makes the pattern easier to work with if it has been ironed flat and fused to Pellon 911 interfacing.
4. 3 yards of Tru-Grid. (Found in the interfacing section of the local Joanns.) Non-fusible Pellon interfacing will also work but because of its narrower width, 6 yards are needed.
5. A fine-line Sharpie. (An ink pen will do.)
6. 3 yards of 45" wide muslin.
7. 1-2 packages of duct ties. (Found in the duct work section of Home Depot. They are made by a company called Catamount, labeled Duct Fasteners, and are 34" long and come 10 to a package. ) The duct ties should be prepped by cutting each one in half and slightly rounding the cut ends. Then each cut end should be passed through the flame on a gas stove or candle to smooth it. Some people also use a Dremel tool to sand the ends smooth. Two packages will yield enough boning to do a corset AND bodice or a couple of heavily boned bodices.
8. Sewing machine. I have 2 but familiarity with the sewing machine makes things go faster.
9. The usual sewing supplies, scissors, pins, seam ripper, etc.
10. For the truly ambitious, fashion fabric (washed, pressed, and ready to cut), 1 and 1/2 yards fabric for flatlining (can be muslin - washed, pressed and ready to cut), 3 yards of cotton duck cloth (washed, pressed, and ready to cut), lining fabric (if used - washed, pressed, and ready to cut.)

From the first bodice workshop, we have discovered that the testing of the toile should be done without a bra. So, wear or bring something to wear that you feel comfortable running around the house in while braless. The pinned toile will be worn over this garment for about 30 minutes to make sure the girls stay put.

Stuff from previous bodice workshops.

The bodice that started it all.

And before that, there were corsets.

Renmail me if interested.  I am also taking names for the Fifth Bodice Workshop which will be in mid-October.

Baroness Doune

The spot has been filled but I am still taking names for mid-October.

Baroness Doune

OK, I have had another cancellation.  Would anyone else in the Twin Cities area be interested in attending?

Sitara

If I didn't have to be in Shakopee from 10:00 - 1:00 for TIPS training, I would jump on the chance.  Could you please keep me in mind for the next round?
Beer wenches are the best wenches!

Baroness Doune

Yes, indeed, Sitara.

You are already on the list.

Baron Doune

Many things getting done...thank you all for coming.

Pulled out the wine...don't tell the Baroness.

Synnovea

Much fun had!!  Thank you Baroness for sharing your Know-How!  Would like to be on the list for October if there is room yet please.
And thank you Baron for the concert.

;D ;D ;D

Sorcha

I too wanted to say "Thank You!!" to the Baroness.  The Workshop was wonderful!
You're a fountain of knowledge and also kind and graceful enough to share.
You are a true gift to our forum!

Wait a minute...!  Sorcha and LD went-AGAIN?!?   I was staying away to let other people get a chance to enjoy the personal attentions of the Baroness (not like that :o you sickos!).

Sheesh.  Next time I'm diving in straight off!  I LOVE the workshop!!!  More sewing, please! ;)
Nothing clever to say here.  Not enough caffine yet.

And I appreciated the opportunity!  ;D  Very excited to have a bodice FIT!  Was the best time I've had sewing in years!

Baroness, I put my name in for October but if someone inquires who hasn't had a chance to attend, let me know and I will bow out to make room for them.

NO FIGHTING!

The 4th Bodice Workshop attendees were all substitutes for those who were originally offered a spot.  Sorcha asked to be included in the next one almost immediately after the last one.  When the first person I offered the spot at the 4th Bodice Workshop could not attend due to conflicts with Bristol, Sorcha got the spot.  LD had asked but, at the time, the workshop was full, so she was the one contacted when the next person who was scheduled to attend backed out.  Synnovea contacted me when I mentioned the second cancellation which started this thread.  No one contacted me when I mentioned the third cancellation.

All of the people who were ORIGINALLY asked to attend 4th Bodice Workshop will be the first to be contacted for the 5th Bodice Workshop.  If they decide they cannot attend or cancel later, I contact the next person on the waiting list.  But you can't be on the waiting list unless you express an interest.  ;)

BTW, when the old forum went bye-bye, so did the list of forum members who had expressed an interest in future Bodice Workshops.  So, if someone mentioned an interest in the Bodice Workshops on the old forum, they have to send me a renmail if they are still interested.

I did the same thing MG!  We can just crash the next one, right?  I promise to behave myself...

Hey, I think she should take this workshop on the road!

Who's gonna help me convince her?!

Marietta Graziella

Ah Baroness, the trobs and tribulations of being in such high demand!  ;)

Just to clarify, I do hope that no one took my comments to be more than light hearted teasing.  I don't want anyone to feel like I was accusing them of "stealing spots" from others.  Blah blah blah.

When did we get so serious around here?  :-\ Sheesh.

Baroness, if you ever decide to video these workshops, I'd LOVE to buy a copy.  There is so much to learn that just one or two (or even more!) times seeing it doesn't seem enough.

Thank you for your generosity of time and talent!

No worries dear, didn't take it as such...took it the way you intended.   ;)  I just wanted to express my appreciation for getting one of the cancellation spots.  (Didn't think I worded it very well when I posted but couldn't get my brain to come up with anything better at the time).  Don't even really know who I replaced...and I am more than happy to be on a waiting list for another chance.  I agree about a video about the workshops, though...I'd buy a copy for sure.   ;D
