It is almost time! The 3rd Annual Sherwood Celtic Music Festival & Highland Games this weekend promises to be our best "Celtic" yet.

Sherwood Celtic Music Festival is proud to announce a Friday night pre-show concert by two of our headlining acts: Celtica from Europe and Brizeus from right here in Texas. Gates open at 6:30pm, and the show starts at 7:00pm at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, and then moves across the way to the Elven Hill Stage, which will be rockin' until 11:00pm.  Tickets for Friday's performance will cost only $6, and are available at the Camping Gate and the Main Entrance.  They are not sold online.

Brizeus will kick the evening off with their lively bagpipe -driven traditional medieval dance music. But don't interpret the word 'medieval' as meaning a courtly step dance! Bagpipes were invented to be LOUD, and this dream team of bagpipe virtuosos, including E.J. Jones and Al Cofrin, play fast-paced tunes that are guaranteed to get your blood pumping and your feet jumping.

Brizeus

Celtica also play fiery bagpipe tunes, and they will regale you, not with traditional music, but with hard-driven, fire-fueled ROCK-N-ROLL! This international group of thrashers will ROCK YOU with tunes by Queen, AC/DC, and original numbers, too.

Celtica
Como Ristorante Italiano will be open for dinner but the craftspeople and merchants do not open until 10am Saturday morning.

The Sherwood Celtic Music Festival lineup includes local Celtic favorites Blaggards, Cleghorn, and Clandestine, as well as the unstoppable Black Irish Texas and of course Celtica all the way from Europe. Sherwood Celtic Music Festival is also presenting Austin legend Ed Miller for the first time at this year's event.
There will be familiar names from the Springtime Sherwood Forest Faire such as Diane Linn, Drones n Drums, Faire to Middlin', Jason Gunn, Klaus Weiland, and Saxon Moon.

The line-up is rounded out with many talented musicians including: Constant Billy, O'Malarkey, Raising Jane, Saileog & Sionnach, and Houston's The Jig is Up! Group bagpipe fans will enjoy San Antonio Pipes & Drums as well as the St. Thomas Alumni Bagpipers, fresh from their 5th place finish in "The Worlds" bagpipe competition in Scotland.

Another new feature of this year's festival with be the Sessions Stage at the 3 Stags Pub where musicians will get together as they wish to jam with fellow musicians.

Find descriptions and video links for each band on our website.

Competitive Scottish Heavy Athletics, including the Caber Toss, Stone Put, and Hammer Throw, will take place throughout each day. Click here for descriptions of the games.

You'll also find Irish dancing featuring the Irish Dance Center of Austin and several family clans presenting their clan histories.

Non musical acts focusing on entertaining the kiddos will include the Roman Legion Cohort V, the J-Walkin' Irish Flea Circus, and the Circus Chicken Dog Show.

Over 75 booths with hand-made arts and crafts plus merchants of fine goods will of course be open for shopping (but not Friday night). Great Food and Cold Beverages including Thorin's Meads will keep you going as you experience the music, games, and artistry of the Celtic Nations.

Adult tickets for Saturday & Sunday are $18/day at the Gate or $16 online or at participating HEB stores. Youth (6-12) tickets are $10 at the Gate and $9 online. Weekend passes (excluding the Friday night pre show) are available for $29 for Adults and $16 for Youth. Kids 5 and under are free. Click here to go directly to the ticket purchasing page.

Patrons who wish to camp may arrive at the Campground as early as noon Friday to set up their campsites.  Camping is $10 per person for the whole weekend for adults, or $5 for Youth.  Please note that a burn ban is in effect in Bastrop County, so no campfires may be lit.

Rahr Scottish Ale is the proud sponsor of the Sherwood Celtic Music Festival & Highland Games.

Never mind. Saw the camping info in the last couple paragraphs.

FYI. One of our group called Bastrop county today and they stated that raised pits with covered grates are okay.

Bruce, I will transmit the "official" word once we have contacted the county fire marshal directly.

Mike, might also want to cross-post to Sherwood FB page.  Someone asked if campgrounds open for Celtic today.  I put a short response based on what I'm seeing here, but it should probably get something from Sherwood saying what Eric said above.
