Look, folks: it's free advice based on my experience.  If you don't want to take it, that's fine, no probs.  If you don't  like the advice, that's not my problem!   ;)  But my personal take, based on my experience (and actual real life boning vs cable ties experimentation!), is that real boning is better than cable ties, for weight, durability, comfort, aesthetics, and price.  As a professional dress and costume maker, I'm never going to advise using something I find inferior, more difficult to get hold of, more time-consuming to use, and without any price advantage.  A little research will find you the correct style of boning for the job in hand, and it'll make the whole construction process easier and more enjoyable.  That's all folks!

I think it's more you came off as:
"psh cable ties suck, yes there's lots of evidence showing it works fine in a ton of usages, but the only real way to do it is with steel boning"
instead of:
"I like to use steel boning because in my experience as a professional it is what my clients want to see and what I have had the best results with"

I think just one of those "tone doesn't translate via the internet things" :)

Nothing wrong with either type, both will get you varying degrees of support depending on how you use them (based on the photographs I have seen in the gallery... I myself am not experienced enough to give an opinion here)

That's basic spelling that every woman ought to know."
