Next weekend brings the largest Scottish Festival in Oklahoma to Tulsa.  Experience great Celtic bands, hear blessed bagpipe music, watch cabers flip end over end, eat some scones and Scotch eggs.  Enjoy rides and see wonderful people of Scottish and other descent on the west bank of the Arkansas River.  I am ready to immerse myself in  a touch of Caledonia.

Looks interesting... we might just have to attend this event!

Unfortunately, we didn't get to go out.  I was pretty sick all that weekend, and for the weeks before AND after, so I didn't get any farther from the house than I was forced to.  We were disappointed that we didn't get to go, though... and we hope to make it out next year!

It would be really nice if there was some decent, SAFE place up there to camp, to keep costs down... because hotels just really aren't in the budget, these days.

I haven't camped since I was a kid so I don't know where in Tulsa would be a good place to do that.  There is camping allowed at Lake Keystone, which is about 20 miles west of the festival park.  It is quite safe there.

But I would rather not leave all of our gear 20 miles from where we will be spending the entire day and evening... and 20 miles is a long way to drive to go sit and have lunch and/or dinner (to be able to stick to any budget that would allow us to actually attend)... so that's not really an option.  I'm not really concerned so much with personal safety as I am with the possibility of theft or vandalism, since I can't afford to replace our camping gear.  Large festivals which have either adjacent or very nearby camping always draw MUCH larger crowds, since it allows people to attend who would otherwise not be able to afford all of the associated fees.
