What sort of pet might a selkie have?

I'd like to have a little critter hanging on my shoulder like I've seen on others in photos. These are the ideas I've thought about a ship's cat, a baby water dragon or a baby hippocampus/kelpie. What do you think?

How about a lobster or crab?  They would be easily recognizable.

In the Muppets Treasure Island, Long John had a lobster on his shoulder!

Yeah, if I didn't consider the lobster/crab my lunch, as I would be a seal woman. ;) (kidding) I was thinking something more magical.

How about a Sea Monkey or Octopus?

:) I like the octopus. It's different. I could just say I put a spell on him so he could breathe air.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy and taste good with catsup.

Cool. :) What do you all think of a baby sea serpent?

How about several pets. Beanie Babies use to have quite a few sea creatures. Seems to me you could put several together and have a Selkie Zoo. Crabs, lobster octopus, seahorse, parrot, etc. If you arranged them right you could attach strings and make them bow as you wanted.

That is a great idea!  It will still be easily recognizable, so you don't have to explain all the time.

:) I appreciate the idea, but I don't know how I would secure all of those critters onto me without them falling off. That and I do not know where to find aquatic Beanie Babies. I tried Amazon.com and it's mostly animals like cats and bears.  The only thing that came close was a frog or a white dragon. Besides, I'm wanting a larger critter like Amras' Spyro T. Bushtail.

I can check my mom's old beanie stash, (we had over like 500 at one point during "the craze" those were dark times.... dark dark times.... ) We should at least have inky somewhere I think... I May be able to find the teenie beanies as well... velcro or string... hook em on your belt lol... Or on a hat if you have one... I think an octopus sticking to your head in fright would be cool...

OOOOOOOOOOO OMG have you seen the movie Aquamarine????? She had little starfish earrings and they would talk to her, you could do that.

I could see having a sea monkey, but not a typical one. I'd put fins on it like a Mer-Monkey. :)

Thank you for all the lovely ideas. I think I may try to make a seahorse. I remember  having a decent-size purple stuffed seahorse toy that I got as a kid, that kinda reinforced the notion. Probably a mix between an actual one and just something of a whimsical edge to it, so people would recognize it.
