I figure most Sherwood folk are visiting TRF about now.

The "no new posts" gray button just looked so forlorn here.   :(

Since we don't do TRF, we are thinking forward to Sherwood Forest opening weekend now that RenDezvous is behind us. We talked Sherwood up to everyone! Got some maybes lined up, but likely not for the weekend we will be attending.

We weren't able to make it out last year, but hopefully we'll get to this time!

I don't know if we'll manage all of the logistics; but I would like to make one visit to Sherwood in 2014.

We would LOVE to get down there one of these seasons, soon!  We've been talking about making it for Spring Break next spring... but it looks like we may be heading to FL then, instead.  It all depends on finances, of course...

Have the trees in the fire areas started to recover?

Dona,
Yes and No.  In the areas where the fires were at (starting point was south of Hwy 290 then heading towards Bastrop) the forest floor has started to recover.  I've seen where young pine trees are starting to come up.  But there's still allot of tall black dead pine trees that just haven't fallen yet.  So you could say the forest floor is starting to recover but the canopy in allot of those areas is gone.

Will DNR replant, or are they going to let the weeds take over?
I don't know how much farmland is around there, but agribusiness takes a dim view of that.

A good portion of the damage was to the state park there. It was heavily wooded, and I'd have to assume they will try to restore the park.

From what I've seen from the road, it's not so much a food farming area.

I think they are still pulling out and mulching the dead trees in the state park.

Last winter/spring they were starting to plant small trees.

It will take years, but with care it will come back.

Driving through, it just looks a little more open than before.

Since this is just a thread to beat back the bastard gray button :p I figure here is as good a place as any to ask this question. How big CAN sherwood get, camp grounds, parking and storage areas included, as far as total acerage the lords of the manor can develop?

I believe we have changed our minds about FL for RenDezvous this year, so we are refocusing our efforts on Sherwood... and with lots of luck and some hard work, mayhap we will make it this time!

Florida would be a lovely trip, but we are bound-and-determined to carry on the tradition of attending Sherwood's opening weekend. We only missed the first year, and to not attend Scarby would be a crime against our nature.  Trying to shoehorn another trip between those would be difficult.

I wish we could be there for Opening Weekend... but it will just be easier for us to go during our spring break, so we're going to try and be there for two consecutive weekends, between March 14-24.  That way Miss Scally can celebrate her 13th natal day at Faire, with so many of our friends and Fairmily!

I have been to Sherwood twice now and loved it both times! as a 15 year"veteran" of  TRF,  I consider Sherwood to be TRF when it started.. more artists, more smiles, more orignal things.. :)

It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.
