Pyrate Con was such an adventure! I got more photos taken of myself in horrible zombie make-up then I ever have had taken of my in my lovely royal gowns. * laugh* figure that one out! Everyone loves pirates...even the dead ones.

Here are my hats minus 1 which is on it's way from Lady Kathleen

One of my favorites. My French Hood to match my Katherine Parr dress made by Lady Kathleen.

My Black and 1st one made by Lady Kathleen.

My Tall hat which is what I designed my next dress for, but then decided I also wanted an italian Bonnet to go with that dress on occasions. I wore this with my Copper and Black dress

Pirate hat... well sort of, it's a Tricorn colonial that would easily work for a pirate hat. From Jas and Townsend

Victorian Riding Hat I got off eBay

I made this Tuesday for my husband - he has a huge noggin, almost 2 feet around (...you know what they say about guys with big heads...) and it took me 3 tries to make one big enough.  But the good news is I have two extra hats (so far undecorated) just like it that fit me now lol.

I used the 'soft cap' Elizabethan Accessories pattern by Margo Anderson, but I had to use the instructions from Renaissance Tailor.

By the end of the day after the third try, I knew everything I did wrong and how to fix it, but didn't feel like making another one.

The pattern recommended I use a sheet of needlepoint plastic to stiffen the brim, which worked extremely well.

Sabrina Black, I wish I could say I made the black hat but I didn't. Sorry if that was misleading. I just bought a cheap black large brimmed hat from a store. You can also order a hat blank from places like Jas Townsend and Sons http://jas-townsend.com/index.php

I have a blog where I wrote up some instructions if you want to see them: http://designbynight.blogspot.com/2009/04/channeling-ostentatious-jack-sparrow.html

Quick question, where might I find a hat like that, that can be turned into a tricorn hat?
