The hubby and I were gifted with tickets to the Masquerade Ball, and though I am super excited, I am also super stressed.  I have absolutely nothing to wear, and don't want to pay $1,000+ dollars for an appropriate dress!  (I'd definitely wear the dress, I just can't pay that much for it.)  So, what are you guys wearing, and are you making or buying your ensemble?

Their somewhat vague and not prominent dress code says fantasy to formal, with mask. So you are probably going to see everything you see at faire, from fancy garb to tshirt wearing mundanes

AKA refugees from "Let's Make A Deal"?

;D  more than likely!   There's a lot of cognative dissonance in play here. they think if they set up a fancy tent and charge too much to get in, that it'll be like one of the established masque balls in New Orleans or LA.  I mean no disrespect to the people that are working hard on this, but from the attendee point of view it's more than likely gonna play like a tarted up kings feast.

No "Wanted Sign" issued for opinions.  Just listen to people who attend and see if they think it's like the King's Feast.  So the Question was: What are you wearing to the mask ball?

Zardoz

If I was going, or could afford to go, I'd dress in an appropriate manner for 'ball' level events, which for me is black-tie. But I have the feeling I'd be a bit overdressed at this deal.

I know it's not at all formal (or even close) but I have a (non HA, I know) Irish Dress.  Would that be appropriate enough to not stick out like a sore thumb?  (with a mask, of course)

This is a good Question!
I was under the impression that this was a TRF version of the Labrynth of Jareth Ball in California.  At that ball, the dress is almost 100% fantasy.

Here is a google search of photos from that event -
https://www.google.com/search?q=labyrinth+of+jareth+masquerade+ball+2014&biw=1057&bih=861&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=keEUVLwqw5jIBJHfgrgJ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAw#imgdii=_

If its just a "formal" masquerade ball, with people in suits and dresses and masks, I'm a lot less interested suddenly.  The photos from the Cali look so interesting, and so much fun!

Tink

From what I've been hearing, I think it IS supposed to be like the Jareth one.

I'm just wondering if I can get away with wearing garb + mask since I don't have the time or $$$ to come up with a suitable fantasy dress.  :-\  I'm super excited to see what others come up with, though!!!   :D

Maybe if TRF could actually issue some guidelines instead of being so mysterious & "it'll be a surprise".

Terre Albert

We had a contest on facebook and people sent in what they are wearing.  A lot like Labyrinth of Jareth Ball in California.  I've been and you see black Tie, Fantasy, Renaissance and super creative.  We want people to be creative so we are leaving it mysterious.  I don't think we want to tell you the is what you have to wear, what fun would that be?

Okay, Terre...
I've decided to come naked.
Except for my 6" heel boots, and lots of jewelry. of course.

In that case I might just have to visit.

The gents over at Pygmypony have posted photos of the Masquerade dress rehearsal, so you all can take a peek at the venue, what the cast will be wearing, and what some of the attendees wore. http://pygmypony.net/TRF14/index.htm

You won't be the only one so come on!
No, seriously!
I WOULD come that way...but I would be the only one, looking at the photos, lol.
I soul love to wear some diaphanous, sheer Greek-y sort of thing, or go the other direction with some bondage looking super-hero leather and lace (More Cosplay, like the Masquerade of Jareth)... BUt it looks like everyone in the photos is wearing either FORMAL or their ren-gear.

Shoot straight, Terre - what will be the range of wardrobe??  A girl's worst fear is arriving at the ball dressed all wrong!

Tink

I have a feeling the abundance of formal wear was due to the particular people invited to attend that night.  (BTW, Terre, love the gold shoes!)

I'm seriously tempted on getting a ticket to go on barbarian weekend, but if I went I would be going as my character from Middlefaire, Asterion the Minotaur (was going to bring him down there this weekend, but other commitments in Shreveport have changed those plans). If they're doing this theme with Pan, based on what I could read, it could be an interesting conversation if Pan decided to chat with me, since my minotaur character considers Pan his patron deity.... Truthfully, I would honestly love to get input on if me going as my minotaur character would be appropriate or not....

If you want to come as a minotaur that's acceptable.  any and all outfit you feel comfortable wearing are acceptable.

BarbarianQueen

So...
Have the costumes gotten any more diverse or daring?? Contemplating coming again :)

Terre Albert

You still win the best dressed award!  I've seen some really beautiful stuff and some more risky outfits but I believe it's going to take a few years to get up to your standards.  If you want to come again you can be my guest.

We had a beautiful lady in the ball this past weekend in a toga.  Any chance it was you?  I wasn't there!

cjacksonii

So can't wait to go this weekend! Initially just bought a regular ticket for the ball, but after that very impressive video that was posted on Monday, I called and upgraded to the Golden Ticket....Got all my garb ready to go as my minotaur character from Middlefaire, I can't wait to wear it to the ball! Might even buy some additional items during the day, haven't decided yet if I will be or what I'm going to get.

Come on weekend, get here quickly!!!!
